I don't think they can stop people using it Tab, but you can get into trouble for putting certain things on there.
For the same reason that I would not put my real name on a public forum such as this, my security settings on Facebook are set so that only my friends can see any of my details. There is nothing in my profile about the military. I do have some photos on there, but again, they're only visible to certain people.
You guys will come to understand about PERSEC and OPSEC if and when you get through training.

You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

Facebook hasn't been banned, you just have to be careful what you post. Having a military picture as your profile pic is one to avoid, keep your address, phone numbers etc private.
I reckon got1's comment was tongue in cheek, if your photos are only visible to your 'friends' then general military phots are fine, as long as they don't breach opsec (eg. no signature kit of specialist roles etc). No-one needs to blank their faces out - well, I expect SF would as they're into that 'gucci shit' ( ), but I don't think you'd find many of them advertising the fact that they're military at all.
In short, common sense - if you're not breaching security, you should be okay. For now, at least.
DISCLAIMER: this was the position last time we were briefed on it, when it started becoming an issue. If it's changed and I don't know about it, A. apologies and B. tell me before I get in the shite for having some old Herrick and Norway phots on there!

One for Beast there mate...
The 'I reckon' was meant to be long and drawn out in a slightly silly but sarcastic voice...perhaps adding 'just might' into the sentence may have made it a little clearer Reckon you can get a sarcastic smiley too Jay? We have got a few 'slower' people floating about at the moment....
