Getting Rid Of Back Pain - Part 1 The Egoscue Method

Post by dave1234 »

If you haven’t already read the previous postings on back pain, please read them first.

If you are in a hurry, please read the one called “The Number 1 Cause of Back Pain” .

Pete Egoscue was a USMC infantry officer who was wounded in Vietnam and came back with a large number of physical problems. Unable to get relief from conventional medical practices, he came up with a method of self-analysis and self-treatment for a variety of back, neck and knee problems.

I have evaluated over a dozen such courses, and by far, Pete’s is the best.

This book should be given to every recruit in Airborne Forces.

The book starts out by telling you how your body should be in terms of posture. It then divides the various dysfunctions people have into three main groups.

You will be easily able to see which group you belong to. There is a group 4, people who have no muscular dysfunctions and have perfect posture. These people are rarer than hens’ teeth.

Once you know which group you are in [ some excellent pictures make it really easy to see which group you belong to ] there are a series of stretches and exercises to get your body back in balance.

In every single case of back pain that I have seen [ many ], once the basic posture is recovered [ forward tilted pelvis brought back to neutral etc ], back pain either goes away completely or is severely reduced.

The book can be purchased second hand off amazon for a very reasonable price.

For those wanting to get rid of their back pain/ prevent back pain from happening, this is the best start.

In the States you can go and get evaluated one on one with an Egoscue coach.

In the UK, there are a few people who do Egoscue evaluation. The UK list is at the bottom of the following link:

I am helping a young lad from London who has very bad back pain, and who has been to see Matt Waters [ the previous link - upwardspiral ]several times. He has spoken very highly of him.

Pete Egoscue also has a few other books which are well worth reading:
