Forces Pub ban in Exeter
typical i absolutley loath chavs with a passion and the law seemes to be on there side police attitude ( i know the marine recruit was defending him self so lets throw them all in jail and end the marine recruit's career before it's even began) that said i am suprised you guy's manage to keep your cool you take abuse from drill instructours day in day out and then on top of it all you have to put up with this. stay safe and dont get injured guy's

Dont think i could put that into wordsPAGreenwell wrote:Definitely best to try and defuse a situation but it isn't always possible.
In Boro a few weeks ago a lad I know was asked by a scruff if he " 'ad any fags", he replied no and thought nothing of it. Next thing the scruff had smacked him hard in the face and there was blood everywhere. He also lost a few teeth and needed hospital treatment.
What can you do in that situation, really?
Proper skumbags
In the end lads - you do whatever you have to do in order to stay safe. If you geninuely feel threatened then you do what is necessary to protect yourself and others, if need be, around you from harm.
If you can leg it, leg it.
If you have to fight, fight to ensure your safety - then get away from there.
How many times have we all seen or heard about this lads? God only knows.
All the best everyone.

my sister lives in Exeter and she was explaining a few weeks back know that when i became a Marine i would be engaged by ASBOS and banded from pubs. i find it all really difficult as i have a lot pf pride, the Marines are the ones that get punished for sticking up for themselfs, and on top of that the marines are the ones trained to fight... hard or atleast thats what i thought so there obviously going to slaughter any wanabys.
but on the up side the hogs head i think is liftining the ban to Marines in exeter

well i havent seen much trouble in exeter but ye all the Royals are banded from most pubs for fighting with the locals and sadly the locals are where they get most of there business as the marines are only around ocasionally

(not a nod) I've been to Exeter and seen the trouble and been caught up between the football fans and soldiers and ended up with a broken nose and finger (it got shut in a fire door) and their was some supposed stabbings in this incident thou i've never heard anything official. My town (Yeovil) used to be the same and still is slightly but it took the death of some person to get the council to basically divide the town, footballers have their own half of the town with about 14 pubs, and theirs 4 for the soldiers. tad stupid but i suppose football is more popular? lolbigdog wrote:I was wondering if any of the current nods had any thoughts on this? A lot of the pubs in Exeter a blanket ban on forces. There has apparently been some recent trouble between nods and a gang of football hooligans called the 'Sly Crew' This culminated in a group of recruits refusing to leave apub whilst a 'crew' of hooligans baited them from outside. There have been calls for MP patrols in Exeter, as there are in Exmouth, together with total bans on Nods going into Exeter. This whole escapade has caused a furore around exeter, being featured in the papers, both local and national and has caused a lot of debate. What is the nods eye view of all this?

I was there as a Nod back in '02 and never seen anything majorly violent, just the odd nobhead in a bar.
I even sat in a bar alone shouting for Newcastle as they played some southern team that the whole bar were cheering on and it was all in good fun.
As said, it's not worth the hassle might as well pop into town, buy stuff maybe cinema or something and go get an early night. In phase 2 nothing stopping you heading to Plymouth / Torquay etc for a piss up

When I was a Nod in 2001 the only places we were allowed into were the Turks Head and Butlers.
Of course we tried getting into other places saying we were contractors for various things. We go turned away more often than not.
As for violence etc. We were warned about the Sly Crew and told they targeted Nods. We were also told to go round in groups no bigger than 4 so if there was shit we could just jump in a taxi and leave it behind us.
Personally, I didn't see any trouble in Exeter involving Nods.
I don't know what it is like now though.

To be fair it would be the same any where, I see it almost weekly when theres a match on in and around Stoke.ofens wrote:It's just the usual sketch:
Temporary ban while there's a football match on.
Yes Exeter is (as stated above) a fairly safe place to go but there's usually trouble when a match is on.

Shame it is that way but I really can't see a way of stopping it.
Alcohol and male egos mixed usually has a explosive out come, only this Friday I found my self mixed up in some trouble that erupted from one glass smashing out side a girls 18th party. Before you knew what there where 150+ people arguing and fighting and riot police and dogs pulling up. Real shame people can't just go out and have a good time.

Oh and it's not a forces ban, it's a ban on groups of recruits being a licenced premesis at one time. It just ends up that recruits cant get in anywhere, except Mosaic.
