Most everybody in Afghan is in the thick of it

Look beyond that please. choose a job you want to do for 22 years.
If Infantry is what you want then fine but remember you get older and wiser and it wont be kicking in doors and fixing bayonets forever.

In the thick of it, shows your serious lack of research into the Army and asks the question. Are you really serious about it all?????

The elite are the Paras but all infantry regiments do get in the thick of it now. I asked a similar question earlier about if I were in the Rifles would I still get action. Ive found out for myself the answer is simply yes. Choose the regiment that suits you best as the Rifles suit me best dont let anyone else decide for you as you could well & truly hate it mate. To answer your question though no matter which regiment you join if/when you deploy to afghan you will get some action Ive just watched most of Ross kemp in afghan & I had not ever even heard of the royal anglians before that & they do really get in the thick of it mate. Take a serious think about what you want. I wanted to join the Paras because I know there the best etc but I knew little of any other regiment & when I sat down with my AFCO I changed my mind to the Rifles (the soldier I spoke to wasnt in the Rifles either) go on the British Army website & look at all the infantry regiments there are you get alot of info of them. Do what you want to do buddy.

Parachute regiment is a ELITE rapid reaction force. They supply 70% of the sas and have a low pas rate due to there demanding course!! If thats not elite then what is???

Elite banana peeling obviously!

Sure every one knows my 2 pence on this hole para subject, i still think to many head strong 'Kids' aim straight for the paras not knowing what is fully expected of them, and to many of them also think if i don't join the paras or the marines i won't see action,... judge you're choice on the future, join something that has opportunities (Thou the paras do have some qualifications look at a role that can give you more.)

What you on about the Para's arent elite? and how do you come too that conclusion. Your joining the REME fixing cars or summik, is that what you thinks elite? You try and tell a Para Regt lad that there not elite, i would love to see that one.

And as liam said, they provide 22 Regt with most of there soldiers and the tours they have been on have been very successful, Sierra Leone, Falklands, Afghan, Northern Ireland and many more.

Idiot ! Cant believe your crack

And plus, if sh*t does hit the fan somewhere, i can guarantee that MOD will want Para Regt and the Marines to be first ones in.

Party Marty, you done?

Each profession in the arm is elite, I'd class some one in the REME elite at their job, I'd class a Para Elite, Paras have a great track record with kicking tail, but so does the infantry, reme, engineer, navy, marines, raf..

we're a big ball of whoop ass, don't get so defensive and please don't take what's said here to heart lol, and I'm pretty sure i could hold a good discussion with a para over this subject, we can't really hold the idea that if you say something to a para he's going to belt you one, we want paras to live up to their name but not every inch of it.
