Foot/Running problems.
I am due to start training for the RAF soon but i have a problem with my feet. When running my foot starts to feel really tense like the mucle inside in under strain it hurts mainly on the outside of my foot and then takes over my full foot and starts to spread up my legs into my calf. i visited a running shop and they looked at how i ran and advised me on what trainers to wear but i am stil experiencing the problem. i just wondered if anyone had any idea of what it could be and if they knew what i could do to stop it because after running about a mile the pain starts to become unbearable. i can however go on o bike or a cross trainer with no pain at all its only when i walk briskly or run.

Former salesman of specialist footwear at your service...
It could be something in your running technique that isn't quite right. Have you always had this while running longer distances or has it just developed over time? Hard to say without watching you run and/or seeing your feet and shoes.
You could try getting some insoles or orthotics? Supafeet insoles are quite good but some people find them odd for running in. Failing that you can get the custom moulded ones which are absolutely brilliant, but a wee bit more expensive. Or more complex and expensive still, see a specialist and get orthotics made.
Are you warming up and warming down before and after you run, by the way? it's unlikely to be causing the problem but if you're not it definitely won't be helping.
Hope I've been some help anyway, good luck with training! What trade are you going for?
