I just wondered where everyone was at running wise with regards to training, it will be 12 months until i am eligible to apply and i run 1.5miles in 10mins, however i need to up my speed and distances and wondered also if anyone had any training programmes that worked for them other than the RM one.

If I have read your post correctly, you are still quite young.
The RM system is more than adequate, but people respond to different things. Some like to train alone, others prefer to train in groups or at a club etc.
When I was in my teens I did weights, rugby, boxing and karate. Obviously they all demanded different types of effort, discipline and fitness., but they all helped in preparation for recruit training.
