Should I Go For Paras?

I Went Up Catterick Last Week At The Scots Guards At The Look Of Life, And I Found It To Easy I Beat 54 Other Lads In The Mile And Half Run And The Pull-Ups, Nothing Seemed Like A Challenge So Should I Go For Paras? Or I Might Even Go For Guards Para?

The next insight course for the Para's is the 07-09 Nov. See this link for details and to book yourself on a course. It is completely up to you and what you want out of a Regiment, put the research in and talk with your AFCO so you can make an educated choice. There are many serving paras on this forum also who will be able to answer any questions you may have.
With any infantry regiment you are almost guaranteed to have a tour within your first 18 months of service.

If you are now thinking of the guards keep in mind you have the ceremonial side of soldiering aswell as the "green" side. With the paras life will not be easy and very fast paced I would think. Also passing P-coy would be no bed of roses. As well as serving in 2 or 3 Para, you may end up serving in 1 Para, which is the core of the Special Forces Support Group if that floats your boat.

I asked about a different regiment when i first inquired and i was told if you do P coy then you will be parachute trained but you still won't be accepted as part of the para lot! I chose to go para for the history they have and the reputation they up hold i want to be a apart of that if you get me, i can't wait for November 16th now!!

I think it is all up to what you want out of your career in the Army?

As you say there is the Guards Para Pltn as a possible route for you but you should bare in mind that it is only a platoon (so we're talking about 30 blokes) and it's open to all the Guards Regiments. This means competition to join will be fierce and I doubt it'd be an option open to anyone only just joining the Guards.

Recruiters may try to sell this option to you as giving you the "best of both worlds" but to be honest mate if you want to be airborne then go Para Reg but I wouldn't join the Guards expecting to become a Para.

Just think things through carefully before you make any decision.

One last thing however, if it's a challenge you're looking for and you want to be pushed to the limit then definitely choose Para Reg over the Guards at the end of the day where do you think those lads who can't pass P Coy are sent

The paras are fantastic lads and hard trained but thier skills & tactics are the same as the Armys and Marines so the hole 'paras are the best thing, isn't realy that any more'

Big respects to them tho they train hard and fight hard, we all do.

They are a tougher a regiment than the normal infantry units, where do you think the failed recruits go from the paras!

Yeah i agree the paras are the hardest force in the game so you've gotta be tough and not soft, gotta be strong and fit and mentaly good aswell, i think im all them things so i think ill be ok, i tried booking a insight course yesterday and the 07/09November one is fully booked so i dont know what to do, because the next ones near december, but that gives me alot of times to get my strength up and my mile and half time down..
