marine/para training comparison...

Post by Skepticsnake »

Anyone shed some light on the differences in marine and para training? E.g. differences in bergen weights, no. pressups, avg. running length etc. Anything you can think of. Explenations on why these differences exist would also be great help.

I am aware that with enough searching this info is probably available at various places on the net/forums, but it would save everyone alot of time, and give some clarity if it was all in one thread.

Also, comparitive information on specialities of Marines and Paras would be great. As as far as i can tell, the marines are no longer 'land and sea' but air land and sea, also, there have been rumours about paras actually not parachuting because of budget cuts etc.

Therefore 1) comparison on training
2) comparison of job roles

Thankyou, hope this thread kicks off as it would help alot of people get a clearer picture in their mind of each regiment.

Check out:

Unfortuantly the Parachute Regiment site is down at the moment, but I can see this rapidly turning into a "Para v Marine" thread.

So if you care to search through those threads until the Para site opens in November then it will save a whole lot of antagonisim and bitching, which normally results in a locked thread.

Go along to the respective careers offices and speak to someone about being a Para/Marine. The only way you will get a feel for what is right for you is if you try and experience as much as you can first hand. More important than the standards (though it may not seem like it now) is the culture and ethos surrounding each group of men.
