Is the eye test really this easy?

I was worried about it but you only need <6/60 to pass according to the letter I have, which is the equivalent of <20/200 according to wikipedia

So if you can read the second line with each eye you have passed?

At what distance?and it depends on how accurate that is to scale.Im sure Ive also heard that your right (aiming) eye has a harder pass level than the left?
Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour'

Obviously you're 6m away, but the first line of letters is stupidly huge as i remember.

Yeah, your right eye has higher standards but simply to pass it only needs to be <6/60. There are three levels of visual acuity.

Don't know what I was worried about. Passed with grade 1 eyesight. If you can read a car numberplate across the street you'll have no problems.

6/60 is for un-aided vision, meaning without glasses. Aided vision in the right eye must be at least 6/12. I failed the test by 1 line i think maybe even less. Still pissed off even thinking about it.

Not being able to join has really messed things up for me. Yes there are other jobs out there but not being able to join because of something so minor is hard to swallow. It's been a year now I think an the feeling of wanting to join han't gone away.

Good luck to future recruits.

They don't allow contacts in training, you have to wear specs. There are different standards of vision you have to pass unaided and aided. The aided standards are higher.

Yeah you can wear contacts in training. You also get issued pussers specs but they aren't very sexy.
We had a Cpl make us pull our war faces, whilst wearing them, in front of the whole troop. Good times.

When they ask you to read the bottom line, tell it's HMSO and a number (can't remember what it is).
