Hi there. As the title says this is about applying and getting my application in as soon as possible. I’ve been training for some time now so it’s time to do something about it. I’m a little behind but I hear it can take a month or so from booking a formal interview to when you actually have take the first 1.5mile test, and from what I’ve noticed the time between the first test and the time you manage to get to selection is about 3-4months. Like I said I’m a little behind on my cardio,(my 3mile currently at 24mins & can only do 2 overhand pull-ups) I’m thinking right now if I’m able to crack my 1.5mile and take that in August, should the time in between be enough to get ready for selection?
I know the first thing is the 1.5mile run in under 10 minutes. Right now my best is 11.04 (been a few weeks since I last tried, could be a bit better by now.) Do you think August will be long enough to get my time down to -10?
I do try and get as much Cardio training in as much as possible but with my training in the morning I have to get done what I can before work. Training is starting to get a little slow now, I’ve been working on my base fitness for some time( before my fitness level was awful, I literally couldn’t run a mile), now that I’m there I don’t get those progress spurts you used to get when you first start training. Things are slow by steady.
So any thoughts on when I should get started on applying?
Thanks
B.B.

Application questions
Hi, and Welcome to the forums.
Really its all about you, how much effort, time and dedication you put in.
We can sit here talk numbers, if this, and that, but end of the day what you put in is what you get out.
Use some of the training guides (read some of the posts) to help with things you need - even the MOD online fitness program.
Its called "Get fit to apply" for a reason

My application was a bit arse about face as I had medicals problems that needed sorting, so that is the reason for the large time scale in my history.
Good luck with your App!

Thanks for the reply taxman, and the welcome.
It's just that 2.4k first gym test you have to do that's getting to me. I haven't really measured my outside performance but on the tread mill going 13kph for 15minutes is as far as I'm going... it's taken me a little over a month to increase how long I can keep up this pace from 10mins to 15minutes, which gets me 3.2k/2miles... running at 14kph+ is scaring me! last time I tried going at 14kph I managed 7minutes before my chest was going to burst, but after a 20 second recovery I went straight back on to get the 2.4k in 10.20...
Saying that I am about 2 stone over weight which is pretty easy to shift, I'm sorta hoping when I get rid of that, the loss of carrying 13kilos around will give me some extra bounce
...it's bloody tough, I regretted smoking so much so young when I started training, now I do even more I've pushed it up a bit. My lungs hate me.

Looks like your on the right track, just gotta keep going.
It mightn't be any use to you, but when im on a tread mill I set at 16.2KPH (i.e 10MPH)) which will give 6 min miles, and try and do as many miles as possible. This also gives you a mile & half in 9mins flat.
When im outside I have a 6 mile route (with inclines and declines) that I try and complete in an ever decreasing time.
As my cardio got better (I never smoked) I go for the best mile and half time.
The thing to note is, we are all differnt sizes/weights body types so find what works for you.
