55 Miler

Post by surfingdream »

Some of you may already know about ten tors. Ten tors is an event which happens on dartmoor everyyear. with each team walking either distances of 35,45,55 mile

In previous years i have completed 35 and 45. This year i decided i did not want to do 55 due to personal commitments. However my old team manager has just phoned up and has begged me to do 55 due to another lad dropping out. My fitness is at an ok standard but walking 55 miles in 36 hours non stop carrying 35lbs is a bit out of my league at the moment.

Anybody got any good ways off upping my stamina crazily in the next few weeks. bearing in mind the event is mid may.

I think its just going to be a case of mind over matter

I did 55mile ten tors years ago with no training, it wasn't that hard to be honest. I thought you had to camp during the hours of darkness so its not non-stop?

Nah thats only for the 35 miler. Only 5 teams have entered this year. Most of the 55 teams tend to only have an hours kip in the woods or some kind of shelter because it's not worth setting up tents. Ah well I will be the youngest person ever to complete it if I do. So it's something to aim for

I used to dread the Ten Tors as nine times out of ten I would be one of the poor sods clocked to be on standby in case any teams got lost. Once spend the best part of a weekend yomping all over the tors looking for this team thought to be lost only to find out that they had been picked up just outside Princetown by their school transit van!

The dopy twonk in charge of them forget to tell the organisers hence 10 Bootnecks spend 48 hours wasting their time looking for a non existant lost team of young ladies from a 6th form college from Dorset!

yeh there is normally the team of muppets that dont know shit and only come for the friday night laughs. Not sure if you know but a girl died last year after falling in a river when it was flooded. I was part of the rescue team that had to collect the remainder of the team. What i saw actaually made me angry. Most of the students had £1.99 coats from woolies and were wearing lacoste style trainers it was an accident waiting to happen. shame to the girls parents though an innocent life gone just because a teacher thought he knew what he was doing. awell went for a 25 miler today not too bad some of the lads are beef in my team so its good laugh . 3 weeks to go :D
