Discharge Papers
Discharge Papers
Hello all,
After much consideration I am looking to join the RAF Regt.
I went to the local careers office and the problem is that they can't do anything with me until I find my discharge papers from the Royal Marines. I have searched everywhere and cant find them.
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if it's possible to get some copies of them and point me in the right direction. I have ringed to Lympstone but get passed from person to person.
Shed some light people.
Cheers.

I know the feeling I am ex Para and want to join the RAF regt and have been told the same I have just got mine through and trust me it took ages (a few months) you have to write to the mod and request your service history in total...!!
I dont know why the AFCO can't do this, but they wouldn't with me so I did it myself. Unfortunately it took longer than I anticipated, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
But you can get it but it just takes time which is really annoying. And I haven't got forever as I'm 29!
Hope this helps slightly?

Thanks for the info lads. I did talk to the AFCO people and asked if they could not just send for them or get the Navy staff to but they did not seem that interested.
However I did manage to talk to the discharge NCO at Lympstone on the phone yesterday and he had all my details and said he would get copies out to me by Friday. Now you have worried me in case these copies aren't good enough lol. To be honest I thought I was going to have to wait months.
It's really not what I want to be dealing with at the moment. My fitness is great and all I want is to get the process rolling. What's annoying is that I live right next to Honington and drive past every day and think " Ahhh I just want to get in there and crack on".

Gents,
The AFCO staff do have certain processes to go through when processing applicants from other branches of the forces, and control of these is often out of their hands.
If you are having real dramas, please email Raf.regiment @yahoo.co.uk This is the email address for the RAF Regiment Recruitment Support Flight, who deal with all of the RAF Regt recruiting, as well as run the acquaintance courses. I'm sure that they will do all they can to help.
Please be patient!!
Good luck!!

As far as I am aware it does matter. They use your papers to send off to your ex service to get the "all clear".
For example, I just got my papers from Lympstone and handed them over to the RAF AFCO staff, and now they have got to send them away and make sure I'm eligible to join. I think it's to make sure I have not got a medical discharge or been booted out.

I left the Royal Marines in week 13 of basic. I was only 17 and just felt I needed more time to do stuff. After a few months I realised it was the biggest mistake I ever made and then had a few personal problems which delayed me re-joining.
The reason I now want to be in the RAF regt is because its my dream to be a soldier, I like the idea of what the RAF regt do and what they offer. And it's already home to me. I live a few miles from Honington and have friends in the RAF regt there. It really covers all the areas I need to be covered. They're a tough ol' lot to, despite what people say.

People seem to think the regt are a bunch of lightweights, but tbh they are not that far off from Marines. and it does seem a bit for you it being closer to home and all.-luke-Rm- wrote:I left the royal marines in week 13 of basics.
