I was wondering on average how many people round about pass Para Training first time with out no problems ?

I'm told 10% of those who apply pass and everyone can expect injuries (ranging from runners knee, shin splints to the more serious broken bones and twisted ankles)

I've been training on my own for about 12 weeks now and have gone through 2 light injuries (shin splints and now runners knee - damn hills!).

Just make sure you train correctly, warm up and cool down properly and eat and sleep well - should keep your body strong and allow for a quicker recovery.

10% ? Is that it? Surely it is higher as this would mean out of every 30 recruits 3 would pass out, or is this actually the case?

Just on a rough guess it's probably around 40-50% which would including people who leave and transfer as well as those who don't make the standard.

A 10% pass rate would be more likely for some sort of SF course.

I was told by a Sergeant Major that it was 10% and he would be very happy if he got 20%.

That figure doesn't include people who are back-squadded due to injury or whatever, so I suppose it's possible that 9 or so would be injured making up the 50%.

He did also give some advice, don't even be thinking about failing right now because otherwise you will fail.

10% is about right for 4 PARA (TA), don't know about regular recruits course.

He might have said 10% but that doesn't mean its true, sometime people say those things to motivate you and make it sound that bit tougher. I doubt any Regiment 3 Battalions strong could sustain itself with only a 10% pass rate.

Think about it, if you have say 50 lads on an intake that would mean only 5 would get to Battalion. Now if there is 6 platoons turning out recruits at Depot then that means that the Regiment only receives 30 new recruits in a year split between 3 Battalions. I'll leave it upto you to decide whether or not that would be feasible to cover the loss of man power the Parachute Regiment has every year.

I presumed at first it was 'scare' talk, to make us want it more. I suppose one day I hope to know the real answer and hopefully I'll remember this thread to give a definitive answer ... until November then
