ADSC on 1st April problem with pull ups
I'm finally going to recruit selection but I'm a bit worried about my pull ups. I'm going for the REME and have been training hard for about 3 months but haven't been doing pull ups, I can do about 2 and need to work hard on them in the gym for the next week. Are there any techniques that would help me get better.
I can knock out around 25 - 30 press ups and have just found out my run needs to be under 14 mins, I'm doing around 12.30 at the mo, is this true??
Cheers for the advice

Have you really been training hard for three months to get to that level?tucker2008 wrote:I'm finally going to recruit selection but I'm a bit worried about my pull ups. About 15 mins for my 1.5 run and wouldnt say I was unfit before, I just didn't do a lot of extra exercise, have been training and running 4 times a week apart from a bout of flu last month that messed me up abit.
I've been in the gym today doing them on a machine where it takes some weight off for you, I'm just hoping I can drop the support a little everyday until my ADSC.

Don't bother, Lat Pulldown machine does nothing for your pullups.
Much better would be to do negatives, jump right up and let yourself down slowly, either that or just do as many as you can.

Robbiedont, I do not think he means the lat pul down, I think he is talking about the machine where you do actually do pull ups, but have a platform for support of which you stand on, the more weight selected, the easier it is to do them...been in gym today doing them on a machine where it takes some weight of for you, just hoping i can drop the support a lil everyday until me adsc

Machines *shudder*
I still say you might as well just do as many as you can!
When I started I struggled to do more than 1 so I did 5 sets of 1, then 3 times a week I added an additional 1 like so...
And so on and so forth, got me up there in no time
11111
21111
22111
22211
Assisted pull-ups are fine for improvement; do as many as you can, obviously. But then follow after that with assisted pull-ups, they are better than negatives but the same thing it will keep your muscles working and allow you to do more when tired. Do as many unassisted as possible first, then as many as possible with 5 assistance, then 10 etc.

tucker2008 Since you're applying for the REME I don't think you have to worry too much about the physical requirements.
If you pass your run, which you will if you're doing it in 11min, and do well on the team tasks they're not going to fail you because you can't do pull ups.
Fitness isn't the main requirement to join the REME so any weakness on the physical side of the tests will be overlooked if you do well on everything else.

Yes that's the best thing, just keep at them, but at the same time try not to stress yourself out too much about them as it's only a small part of what you will be asked to do.tucker2008 wrote:sounds good, but im still gonna work on them alot now Ive seen how shite I am at them lol, how longs the ice breaker??? im good at chatting shit just need to know how long it needs to be done for.
Oh and the ice breaker is about 5mins long depending on how well you're doing usually.
