Couple questions regarding the para's?

Post by Triumph_Rat »

Hi well this is my first post. So its also an introduction. Well my name is Dave. I'm 22 years old. I hate my job and I've done a few different jobs. Used to be in the TA, but had to leave because of commitments. I really enjoyed it. I shoot guns. I'm also a biker.

I've started the process for joining the armed forces. I'm currently working through the army fitness plan. I'm running 2.5 miles in 19 minutes and 30 seconds. Outside along local roads. Which is a good mix of downhill, uphill, and flat.

I'm planning on joining the Paratroopers.

What is the actual run time for 1.5 miles to join the Paratroopers at recruit selection weekend?

Is it the same as normal forces 11 minutes and 30 seconds for combat? I heard for the Para's that its 9 minutes and 18 seconds?

Also is there a minimum limit for the press-ups and sit-ups for recruit selection weekend for Para's?

On my fitness poster it says there no requirements for this at all. When i was in the TA I'm fairly certain that it was 44 press-ups and 50 sit-ups?

Hi pal,

10 minutes for the selection weekend. But note that you'll be doing the max 2 mins sit-ups and max 2mins press-ups just before you go for a run.

You need to be down to 9 minutes to be accepted < was told this just this week.

Would think you need to be able to do 50 - 60 of each (sit-ups and press-ups) to be accepted. I know that's the minimum I'm aiming for.

Get yourself on a insight evening or weekend course with the paras and ask away. http://www.army.mod.uk/para/insight_course/index.htm

I posted on another military forum. They were much quicker with the answers than here. This place seems dead.

Heres the thread I made on the other forums http://www.arrse.co.uk/cpgn2/Forums/vie ... ml#1849343

Might be useful reading for you as well.

I was told something quite similar, 9:18 - thats until I was told different from a Para Sgt. He said 9:00 to be in.

He didn't bother explaining about the 9:40 because I'm not going to be lifting that weight anyway.

Will have a read of your other post, thanks.

The minimum.
1.5 mile in under 9.30 min,
2 mins 60 push-ups,
2 mins 60 sit-ups.

That's the requirements before you even go to selection centre. So it can only get better.. :)
