I know that there are a few posts about PTI already but just a few questions that I couldnt find the answers to with a search.
I did my first 1.5M timed run the other day I got 10 min 10 seconds which I was fairly happy with for first attempt, but would this be acceptable or are they looking for much closer to 9 minutes??
I used to be a lifeguard so swimming isn't a problem however we never usually had to worry about form or technique as long as we got to the person drowning! And my front crawl technique is not amazing. How strict will they be at Cosford about this?
And the skill that you have to teach, do they choose one for you or can you choose your own? Any examples of ones poeple have done would be great.
And finally anyone got any good ways of improving the max number of press ups because I tend to get to about 40 and can't do anymore, I've tried doing super-sets with weights at the gym to improve muscle endurance but hasn't helped that much.
Any replies would be great. Thanks very much.

and your skill is chosen for you. i had the long barrier in cricket. Some had the volleyball serve, others had basketball moves and then we did rugby passes and kicks so its completely random things.
your press ups will just take time and patience to improve. Nothing beats practicing the real thing. So just keep doing pressups in a routine sets of say 25 to 30 roughly 3 - 4 times more than twice a week. This should help.

Ok DOC chill a bit.
I did my course in Nov 06 just over 15 months ago.
I tore my achillies on day two so couldn't perform very well in some disciplines.
I don't think i would have passed if I had anyway, it's mega hard to pass first time.

Your 1.5 mile run needs to be closer to 8 mins.
Apparently theyre looking for 90 press ups and 90 sit ups in a minute.
Bleep test level 13.
Swim 50 metres in 50 seconds.
Then swim 60 metres backstroke, 60 breast stroke and 60 front crawl, this must be continuous, and it is not timed. They're looking for perfect form too.
The skill will be chosen for you. It's just a simple sport skill and you have 10 mins to coach the group. When a skill is being coached by a canditate the assessors are assessing the person coaching on their coaching abilities, and also the rest of the group on their skill performance.
It's very hard to get in. Don't bother attempting to apply if you can't do what I've listed above. They may still let you in if you don't get the above fitness marks providing you do exceptionally in all other areas. But it's better to take some time to get your fitness levels through the roof, practice coaching, practice leadership and teamwork so when you go you should do well.
At the end of the selection course they give you an overall score (in private of course) on how well you did.
A score of zero means you did rubbish and you don't get invited back.
A score of 1 means you did ok and they will tell you what needs improving. they'll invite you back in 1-2 years time.
A score of 2 means you also did well but still have some areas to improve on and you'll be invited back.
A score of 3 means you did very well and they'll recommend to the careers office that you be allowed in, but its not a definite.
A score of 4 is the best, obviously and you're pretty much in, but to get a score of 4 means you have to be brilliant at every single part of the selection course plus show good qualities such as confidence, humour, etc.

I agree 90 is mental!!!!!!!!! The most anybody did on my selection was 64 and he was a Royal Marine who just got out of the RMC's
