When I run...

Post by shazza »

My ears pop and it totally distracts me and it feels so uncomfortable that I can't concentrate on my running so I just stop.

Does anybody else get it?

Should I maybe see a doctor about it?

I used to get this around 2 years ago when I used to do cross country at school. My ear would pop (haha would only ever be one which made it even more distracting  ) and all I could hear was my breathing loudly in that ear.

Started long distance running a few months back for the Marines and it just eventually stopped happening. I guess you could sort of say I just ran through it. You could see doctor if it was really bothering you but it will more than likely sort itself out to be honest.

Good luck with your training! what you going in for?

Maybe if I stick to going to the gym and fitness training like I should be ( no motivation since lad left to start his RM training) it will go away..I'll just try and see what happens!

I want to join the Navy as an AET and I'm absoulty bricking it! I think I'm going over the top with my preparation and that and I'm so worried about my fitness that I feel so stressed

The last time I was in English school was in year 7, then I left for German school as I'm half German and my parents are planning on staying here and I wasn't looking at joining up at the time. I finished school in 06 and went to college till August 07 and then quit as I was studying business and industry trade administration and it was a load of poop. I hated it!

I'm trying to top up on my English and maths now in the Army learning center and I'm going to take my GCSE's just to see where my weak spots are. Also trying to get info on Navy history but there is so much I don't know where to start.

I think the thing that scares me and worrys me the most is that I'm actually going for it. I've never really been serious about anything but I'm definitely going for Navy. I really don't want to fail :-?

Gone a bit off the topic then lol but em...Any tips on circuit training and maybe helping my upper body as I'm a weakling lol

I've been through the Navy training and now left to join the Parachute regiment.

Don't worry about Navy fitness it's a pile of piss, you do min 24 press ups, min 39 sit ups and its all to a beep not to the 2 minute mark and the run is 5 laps round the astro turf.

We had people fail in the run test which you do at about week 2/3 and they didn't pass it till week 8 when threatened with back classing.

All you need to worry about in the Navy is keeping your PO happy with some good ironing!!!!

Aye, I did basic for the Navy about 2 years ago.. The fitness is nothing, although we did have 1 person who eventually got kicked out for not passing the 1.5mile. I think you do 1 in the first week, and then the main 1 is in week 5 I believe. If you fail, you just get rammed onto remedial training in evenings.

Fitness isn't incorporated much into the training. In 8 weeks all I can remember is the following:
1 practice 1.5mile
1 real 1.5mile (PT-A)
PT-B (press-ups, sit-ups, sprints)
2 x swimming tests (1 is just 40m in overalls, 1 is in seamanship week)
3 group based runs (split into easy, medium and hard based on 1.5 mile times)
4-5 PT circuits (just alot of press-up stress holds and stuff)
1 beasting in week 8 (tuck jumping until our arses bled)
1 session of rope climbing

To be honest, if you go into basic training able to do 25 pressups, 40 sit-ups and a 12min 1.5, the training, determination to pass and adrenaline will get you through fine. But I'd try and get in there with a 10min 1.5 or so.

As far as your ears are concerned, think of something else while running. I used to get around it by just like turning my tongue on it's side and chewing on it a bit while running :P If that doesn't work, chewing gum or something might.

Lol i watch unbreakables every week & 2 weeks ago they was with the Royal Navy and the unbreakables all went through it easily, even a women and the stuff they was doing was for a Navy Diver wich i think a woman cannot go for. Different story with the US Navy Seals though, they broke her.

Hi there I've got my basic training in about weeks. Seriously getting stressed over my fitness at the moment i can quite easily do the 39 sit ups and push ups. I've been going to the gym about 4 times a week and when weather is not horrible a run on the road. I've got my 1.5 down to about 10mins 30 on the treadmill. Just getting worried that its alot easier to run on a treadmill than on astro-turf.... will i be up to it?

And also is there much bullying in the Training as I hear about ?

Mate get running outside, whether or not you like the bad weather, your going to need to get used to it.

Personally i find running outside so much more enjoyable and refreshing,
nothing will prepare you for it better than actually doing it.

There are alot of posts here on improving your fitness. Try searching 'Fartlek' should get some useful information.

just got back from a good run as we speak , i agree its alot more refreshing. I supose i just got set in my ways going to the gym seeing the same faces etc. But I might as well keep up with the road running, lot cheaper thats for sure, just hope i dont nearly get run over by boy racers again  it is a dam pain.

If you're running on road mate get some REALLY good trainers else if you go on long runs (30 mins +) It'll fak up your knees if you don't have good shock absorbing trainers. Don't mean to sound like a know it all just what've i've been told and found from personal experience...
