Hi...hearing test help...please

Post by mr a »

Please if possible, does any one have any info on the hearing test on the medical?

On how its graded..conducted, and how to.....get one over the person taking the test?

Had one recently and failed on my left ear by 5db on a single frequency....and I have to take re- test next week.

Cheers....

pm me if you like with info.

On mine they sat me in a soundproof booth, and I had to signal with my arm when I was able to hear a tone that was played through headphones.
Each ear was tested separately. It's very simple and does not last long.

I don't know how it's "graded" but unlike the eye test I think it's just pass or fail.

If you can hear you will pass it.

Come on now ladies. Stop worrying about stuff like a bloody hearing test! If your lugholes are suspect then why bother trying to join the Corps?

It's like a bloke with one leg, one arm and one eye asking to join as a Vice Admiral in the Chuffing Royal Navy! Even Nelson had all his bits n bobs when he first started out in the Navy.

If you are not 100% fit then don't even think about applying to join the Corps of Royal Marines because you will be told NO!

If you have a med problem which will never go away then take it as read that you won't be able to join. Commandos are what they say they are Commandos! Fit as fiddles and brimming with health.

Sorry but people with any med problem can forget all about joining the Corps.

Up to you if you come back, if not, there's no point me saying goodbye because he's already gone....

To the original poster.....

I failed my first hearing test. Doc said it was a combo of reasons. Listening to mp3 players, frequently, clubbing/standing near loud music, ear infections etc. I was guilty of all 3 he told me to lay off. I did, got some cotton buds some ear cleaning thing I think its called otex, came back an re took the test next week and scraped a pass.

I cant quite remember it but you need to be able to hear a minimum of 95(whatever its measured in) in both ears. It starts at about 150 and goes down to around 60.

If that is unclear or vague, which it is, feel free to send me a pm. All the best

All I'm saying is that you have to be fit to join the Corps. If say your eyesight is a bit below par then you can join as you can wear glasses. But if your hearing is below par then you can't.

The reasoning is simple.

If you can't hear your Sect Cdr giving you orders during a firefight then just what use are you to him and the rest of the section if you stay where you are because you didn't hear his orders?

In three words your a Waste of Space. Sorry, but it's a fact of life that you have to be able to hear without the aide of hearing aides.

If your hearing is not up to scratch then forget it mr a. You asked and I told you the facts.

mr a please get off your high horse
You've had quite a thorough range of answers to your question, all from different points of view and addressing it in different ways...what more could you want from a forum?
I think Artist's answer was to the point and more helpful than someone cushioning you form the truth!

Take it easy buddy we're all here to learn from each other. Hope you can pass the test...and chill out! :)
