Scott Lawton V.S. Amir Khan

Post by Stokey_14 »

Anyone watching the Amir Khan fight tomorrow? (TV or like my self traveling down?) I'm going down to watch it as Scott Lawton owns the gym I train at and is obviously is a local lad...really hope he can cause an upset, can't personally see it happening, but he isn't a push over and I have faith 8) .

Really looking forward too tomorrow, football in the day, boxing at night :D I’m such a lucky chappy.

Any thoughts on the fight also?

Stokey

P.S. Anyone else find it amusing how the TV is likening Amir to Ali in the advert? They quote Ali then say can Amir do the same.

16 (?) professional bouts and people already trying to make out he’s the next great... rather like someone playing for Stafford town and then people saying, could he be the next Gordon Banks

Yea sure am looking forward to it!!

Not much football during the day though! Only a few matches, something to do with TV listings/rights etc..

Fair bit of rugby though which is always good - a cracking day for the pub me thinks ;) :D

Cheers

Oh well, could have been worse! Looked to be a good even match at first, Scott layign some good hits on Khan. In fairness to Khan though he took the hits well and came back strong. Scott didn't seem to happy with the ref ending it but I think it was the right decision at the time.

Agreed, Scott was always the outsider and I think he put up a admirable fight, the Stoke/Scott fans where there on mass (just over 2000 I believe) and out sung/numbered another signal group of fans...Enjoyed the night and although I'd loved Scott to win I have to hold my hand up and say Amir was a class above.

One little dampener on the evening was that there was some trouble during and after the fight between the Stoke fans and all of the Bolton Asian's fans...kind of inevitable though I suppose as they put the two sets of supporters right next to each other :-?

Interesting to see who Amir fights next... maybe Thaxton, maybe another Commonwealth defence with a lesser known fighter.

The Great Amir Khan says,

"Another 5 fights and I shall be world champion"

Or at least words to that affect  .

Khan is class, but he is to young to be worrying about world champion bouts.

Why rush?

Exactly he's got more than enough time to become "great" and should be focusing on become a better more experienced fighter, thus progressing in the sport.

Put you're self in his position though, young and egger to prove himself on that stage... he has a good team around him though who I personally think will keep him on a tight leash and not let him get gung hoe about the hole thing... if he goes to fast to soon it could be his down fall.
