Post by rm1664 »

Hey Guys!

im carrying an injury on my leg and strugling to keep training. I was considering getting a bike to built my aerobic capacity and endurance.

Do you guys think this would be benifical, do u think it would help me build a good level of fitness so when im over my injury ill already be fit.

What distances would u recommend

If you go for a cheap road bike I highly recommend the one I have. It's an Felt F90, I have had it for about 2 years now with lots and lots of cycling and I have only ever needed to change the tires and brake pads once.

or you can try swimming, thats a very effective form of CV exercise as it puts absolutely no impact upon the joints. Used alot for physio therapy for this reason.

Mate i cycled over a week while 'trying' to get over a rib injury and i have maintained a decent level of fitness. Its good cardio i know that much and i doubted it also when i first thought of it.

If you can get to a gym i would recommend sitting on one of those stationary bikes and cycling on one of those. Find a setting which you have to stand and cycle as this will get you puffing. Also do some road biking as well and try to include as many hills as possible.

As for distances i was doing 10-15 miles as fast as i could.

Mix it up a bit. If i take some time off running to let my legs rest or if i feel a twinge or something like that, i usualy head down the gym and on days when i'd usualy run in that week I would do rowing 1 day as its a great accomplice to running, next day say cycling, x-trainer and also swimming is great for CV.

Also mate there's sh!te loads of info on alternatives to running, type cycling and swimming etc into the search button and see what comes up.

all the best.
