Hi everyone, im a 29 year old guy trying for Para, missed a few chances when i was younger due to being in debt, tattoo on hand and a petty offence, nonetheless i got accepted for Para 2 months ago after 6 months of battling a misdiagnosis of recurring subluxing shoulders, it has been a real battle to get this far but i have not once given up, i have had laser surgery on tats and paid private to see specialists concerning shoulders, not sure on the age of the oldest civvy to make it through but i was dead chuffed on selection when i was between 17 to 20 year olds and came fourth in the 1.5 with a time of 9.15, im just worried that my time will have slacked off a bit since then as i dont get much training time due to work and family , can anyone tell me if as long as you try your best theyl stick with you or they will boot out people because there not to a set standard as im worried on that one, partly due from smoking and drinking like a mentalist from the age of 16, im not fit but i would consider myself of an able state to get there in a short while,
thanks for any replies and sorry if i dont make much sence

If you'd have joined a few years ago when they still had screening week you would have been in trouble if your fitness isn't up to standard but they've changed the training syllabus now so that it's more progressive rather than dropping you in at the deep end so to speak.
As long as you show enough determination you should be ok, the PTI's and platoon staff are the best there is and will get you upto the required level of fitness as long as you're prepared to put the effort in.
Do you know what platoon you're going to be on?
Good luck mate, I hope you do yourself proud.
Ps I'd quit smoking now if you haven't already.
