I think the point is that it's possible to have a very strong core without have the chiselled 6 pack beach look

At times it is even detrimental

mix up your ab workouts like leg raises, wieghted situps on a decline board and other excercises but abs are only deep and chisled with low body fat otherwise you cant see them and theres nothing wrong with wanting a 6 pack thats 1 of most males goals go for it

Most guys with strong cores don't focus on the upper abs so don;t really have 6 packs. The core muscles provide the real strength and thats what the professional lifters work on a hell of a lot. Once the cores are activated and being strengthened it's very strong

ye i know but it seems theres some people in a mood lately dont know why but there not getting anything just being funny with people everyone should want a six pack its an achievement that you have to work for and earn

I've got a relaxed visible 6 pack, I know a few people with ripped out 8's but they're never flexing them in the mirror. Trust me mate once you've got them the novelty wears off. Work on your press ups, build a good chest, much better for your ego if you are that way inclined.

My core exercises involve:

Standing Side Bends
Squats
Stiff Leg Good Mornings
The Plank
Weighted Sit ups
Many variations of Crunches
Leg Raises
A fair few martial art exercises too.

Remember, you will look a mug with washboard abs and invisible obliques, they complete the look.

How could any solid muscle be considered detrimental? That reminds me of an article I read about punching power, the author claimed huge biceps reduce your power as they cause you to pull the punch.

Tell that to Tyson.

That said though anything over 14% IMO is a tad too much
Really? I thought most young guys were around 17-18%. Nothing wrong with that.

cheers mate. but i dout the novalty wears off. and yh wanting a 6 pack is mostly for ego and looks and even self confidance, a mean since when dint girls like 6 packs?????.

It only feels good when a girl puts her hand on the bottom two. When I look in the mirror I barely notice them, a solid chest is much more impressive.

They do have a practical purpose but I won't go into that here.

You've missed my point mate, for endurance athletes a percentage of bodyfat that might shadow the abs is a necessity. Of course your abs should be dense, strong and supple but they can be that way even when you can't see them clearly

Why must people persist in starting a post without a capital letter? It is basic English.

When did I claim a six pac would benefit a soldiers training, this entire thread is purely egotistical. I was handing out advice on obtaining a six pac, I never said ripped abs are vital for the marines.
Of course your abs should be dense, strong and supple but they can be that way even when you can't see them clearly

A small layer of fat is always useful and healthy.

You'll be surprised at some people, American footballers may look fat but apparently about 80% of it is muscle.

what percentage body fat should you have then? the "average" man is supose to have 19-22% but us to be Marines arnt gonna be "average"?

19 - 22% is overweight

For people like 'us' that train frequently it should be easy enough to maintain something closer to between 12 - 14%

Please don't quote these figures as gospel as everyone is different, genetics play a large part and diet is important.
