Colchester Town
Colchester Town
Hi all, arrived in the UK just over a week ago. Settled in alright, just wondering where the good pubs and clubs are in colchester (as thats where i am living)
I've had a walk around the town centre but cant really find any sort of central area for night life. Any words of wisdom?
Cheers

Not been there much but I've never seen anythign majorly resembling a decent town centre in terms of clubs etc. Could have missed something though, never actually stayed in Colchester for any length of time. If you're student looking you could always try going to the uni and gatecrashing their clubs; look a prick if you got caught out though

haha hey i use to be a student! im sure i'd fit in.
I think i saw one club in the town, some blue place with pictures of a bunch of bikini clad chicks on the walls premoting some summer event or something, sounds like a good time.
Havent seen what looks to be a good pub. I've asked around and everyone just goes 'no i dont go in there at night, fcking squadies... (mumble mumble)'
Actually drove past the base the other day, quite impressive compared to the NZ army base i've been on, the whole 7times the size thing is the main thing i noticed
Anyway, still looking for a spot of nightlife if anyone knows where the places to go/be are.
Cheers

Hi mate, Colchester is an alright laugh at night, as long as chavs dont bother you too much! Your best bet is Edwards or Yates as a warm up. Route nightclub is good on Friday and Saturday nights and if you want to slum it give the Hippodrome a whirl on a Tuesday night but make sure you have had your jabs!
Give the uni a miss, you wont get into it without stude ID and to be honest military people are never that welcome there. Route is where you want to be mate.
Have fun
Will

route, cheers mate. I'll have to go looking for it.
Speaking of chavs, my cousin mentioned the word the other day and i didnt have a clue as to what they were. after a short explination while walking to the bus i got the basic idea. When boarding the bus a 'chav' jumped on board. I swear i nearly yelled with enthusiasim (spelling?) 'OOO!!! theres a chav!!!'
cheers

Wholley: What's wrong with it? What's right with it is the real question.
Someone find me something to like about Colchester I'd be quite pleased really...
Awkward, badly planned and managed (in terms of both car and pedestrian access), no interesting shopping, very little in the way of anything else. How on earth so little is made of it being Britain's oldest recorded town is really quite impressive in an odd way.

My daughter lives there and she loves the place.
Mind you...We have always been a little concerned about her

I think its a nice place to visit for a few days to have a look at the quaint little streets and shops but thats where i draw the line haha!

Alright, you've got me. North Essex does have the lowest precipitation rate in the country (less rain than anyone else).okay but the weather is nice this time of year...kind of.

What a wonderful selling point.

okay what place DO you like?

Plenty of places I like, but Colchester (as you will have realised) isn't one of them
Truly, I've been around the world twice and visited every continent except Antarctica - my usual reaction to every new place is to fall in love and wonder why anyone would want to live anywhere else...
I could produce a list as long as your arm of places I like!
