On The Biff For A Sodding Month!!!

Post by JumpFreak »

I'm back after 5 weeks of training! Dr has given me a month on the biff for my shins to heal! I only really went for a bit of advice and maybe some painkillers and he ended up giving me 2 options (after having an xray).

1) Get a MD
2) Join Falklands Platoon and get physio

I couldn't quite believe my ears when he told me!!

I've been home since friday and i'm feeling depressed already, they wouldnt even allow me to carry on until the end of week 6 so i could at least pass off the square!!

Coming home after 5 weeks is far to soon, my mind has only just got into military mode and now i'm back in civvy street for 4 weeks!!

I'll now have to be back squadded and put into a platoon where i dont know anyone!

This really is f*****g crap!!

One lesson learnt though; if you have any medical problems that you just want advice about - don't ask the doctor as they'll just play it safe and transfer you to falklands!!

If anyone has any questions though about the 1st 5 weeks, feel free to ask - i've got sod all better to do!!

Sorry to hear about that mate. Its always rough when something out of your control stops you from doing what you want.

Just be thankful you got the option to stay in, I never even got that.

Keep your chin up mate it's just a set back and not the end of the world, once you get back the first few weeks will fly by, you'll know what you've got to do and how to do it.

You'll make new mates on your platoon just like you did last time, in the end it won't be a big thing the extra time will fly by.

Don't let it get you down.

Look on the bright side, your still in are you not? So you have to restart training with a bunch of strangers. Once you get them wings and that Maroon beret your fellow recruits nine times out of ten you will see anyway during your career in the Paras.

Bootnecks have summut like your Falklands Platoon, it's called Hunter Troop. Quite a lot of guys end up in both of them due to injury. So take it as read that you have been given a second chance to restart training. If I was in your Boots I would thank whoever it was that gave you a second chance bigtime. Being a Hard Bassa is all well and good, but if you have a niggle and ignore it the niggle may become a real problem which could result in you being binned back to civvy street full time.

Just be thankful that you are not in the Falklands Platoon where I imagine it would be gut wrenching to see your old Platoon passing out whilst you had to endure weeks or indeed months of sorting out your injury. The Army has given you a second chance, so thank whoever it was with all your heart that you are still a serving member of the Paras and not some poor sod who's been binned.

By the by gents, never ever hide an injury from your training team or you will be in the deep stuff. As in Med Discharged of doing time in the Falklands Platoon. In your line of work fitness has to be the number one priority. Hide an injury and you will only make that injury ten times worse. In other words see the Doc if you are not 100% fit. Cracking on don't work gents. It normally ends in tears and time in the hospital or even worse.

Cheers for that guys. It's just depressing being back at home knowing everyone else is back at depot, passing off the square in the morning.

Keeping my fitness at a high standard is my main priority at the minute. Lots of swimming and lots of work in the gym. At least it's given me an extra month to work on my muscle strength in my legs!

Jumpfreak,

Its shit when you get injured. One thing to note from now on, only go sick as a last resort. The docs and medics in that place will not think twice about putting you in falklands for painful shins. I nearly got taken out of my platoon for shin splints a couple of weeks before p-coy, but some physio was all i needed.

Anothing thing, there are still lads coming to battalion who have been in falklands for over 2 YEARS!! So it PROVES its possible to get out of that place if you want to. My advice to you is if you really want to become a paratrooper to stick with it, tell the medics to f*ck off with their MD and crack on with falklands or whatever they give you. You WILL get out of catterick. Just keep that in your mind. Battalions are not going anywhere so keep your mind focused.

Good luck, and rest up.
