hi kanedaRMC,

your upperbody scores look fine, but you do need to work on your cardio if youre doing 3 miles in just 24 mins. dont just train to do 3 miles - do 2, 3 and 6 milers+, sprint sessions, the bleep test and swim regularly and by september you should be fit enough for sure.
all the best mate,

If you really want to improve your running time maybe join a running club? I am in a triathlon squad and we regularly train with a running club the drills they do will get you hanging if you aren't a strong runner and your running will improve pretty quickly. Im banging out 17minute 3milers pretty consistantly now and i can really say it was training with a running club that helped

Just a quick question while we are on the subject.... how do you go about finding your local running/triathlon club? I have tried looking on the internet, but to no avail!

You dont want to be over fit fella, as you could find your fitness level dropping once you start training. Your fitness level will be built up with a natural progression.

Now I'm nowhere near knowing 100% what I'm on about, but by the sounds of it some of you sounds like some of you are putting in way too much work, not that it's a bad thing.
I know of a couple of people who have never "trained" or gone to a gym before in their life, just had kick abouts in the park and have gone onto to pass PRMC and complete RM training.
As it says somewhere on the RM site and on the army site, you don't need to be super fit just have a reasonable amount of fitness and they will build on the rest.
But that's just what I've gathered, So I wouldn't take it to be the be all and end all, because I haven't even gone into the AFCO yet.

completely agree with the above but if the thread starter says hes only managing to do a 3 miler in 24 mins, and the minimum requirement is 23 mins down on PRMC, then hes going to have to work at it.
i, personally, really struggle with the old cardio and failed my first PRMC, but with knowing what was expected i passed my second. for me, "just keeping active" wasnt enough. i had (and still am having) to really put my arse into gear with the running and swimming side of things.
cheers,

My AFCO hands out 12 week training programs. My advisor originally told me he put reasonably active potential recruits on this program, and they would go on to achieve the required standard of fitness for PRMC. He also told me how many of the young lads he had interviewed were extremely worried about their fitness, and spoke of a years training before PRMC. If you have what it takes this is completely over the top. Of course without the required mentality it would mean nothing, but as he told me, it shows your fitness standard does not need to be that of "superman". Therefore providing you continue to train solidly, you stand a chance of passing in September.

I've seen the 12 week program, and you would be amazed at how smoothly you can progress through it with the right state of mind and solid training.
