Need help convincing my grandfather...

Post by Shred »

I'm looking to join the sigs after I finish my A levels next year. My grandad, having served in the raf, wants me to join the raf. So far the only reasons I've got out of him is a) It's more IT orientated (I want to do something to do with IT. and b) The uniform looks better.

I'm stuggling to convince him why I should join the army instead. I mean, I really want to be in the action as well as work with IT, and I don't really want to join the raf because well, it's the raf...

Help! :D

Be a man and make you're own decision, you don't have to justify yourself to anyone.

Tell him you've taken onboard his advice but you believe the Army is the better choice for you. Once he sees you've made up your mind and that you are determined to go through with your choice then I'm sure your Grandad will respect you for it and stand by your decision.

Remember it's your life so don't let anyone else try to live it for you.

Cheers Spider :P

Alfa I know that its my own life and whatever he says isnt really going to make any difference to my decisions but it would be nice to get backing from my family you know?

I think he kind of wants me to follow in his path, he was some sort of comms in the raf so I guess he would just like me to do the same, I sort of feel like I'm letting him down by not at least giving him a decent reason why I dont want to join.

Mate the fact that YOU want to be in the army is a good reason.

Explain to him that while you respect the RAF (even if you dont say you do ) and the work he's done (again ditto :P) tell him that what you want to do is be in army remember it's your choice not his.

At the end of the day you'll still be serving our country which at the end of the day is all that matters.

Good luck whatever you decide to do though. :D

As a father I can now finally understand both your mums and grandads point of view! My son is 16 nearly 17 and desperatly wants to join the army, as you'd imagine my wife and I are against the fact due to the current war/s situation in afgan and iraq! I think the army is a great career, good discipline, good pay, great travelling etc etc but times have changed, the enemy has changed. All I'd say is have a very big think but follow you heart.........

Good luck in your future plans

they love the green hats I meant, so if you do join the army/navy/raf, you can always purchase one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-WOOL-FELT-TRI ... dZViewItem

My grandad always told me he didn't want me to join the marines (before he died last year). He served in the RAF during WW2 in India. He said i'm too intelligent to be on the front line, I tried to make out I wasn't as interested in the marines as I am. I've thought about the RAF or a technical regiment but deep down I know I want to be a marine. I'm going for my PRMC on tuesday and I'll hopefully be starting recruit training next month if I pass.

Do what you need to do mate. Take advice, but if you don't do what you really want to, you'll regret it in later life.
