Can anybody tell me why 1 Para aren't in 16 Air Assault Brigade? I have read somewhere that they are then somewhere esle they aren't. If not, why are they not part of 16 AAB?
You have to have server 3-4 years before you can go on tour with 1 Para and it gives everyone a chance to try it out so my ACIO told me and SFSG means Special Forces Support Group (they assist SAS mainly on operations) hope that was what you wanted mate.
You don't have to have served for 3 or 4 years to move over to 1 Para, that's the required time before you can go for SF.
I believe it's something like 1 successful tour under your belt before you can apply but don't quote me on that.
From what I've heard there's not that many guys from 2 & 3 Para who want to move across and those who are tend to be the newer lads to the Battalions.
As for the question about the Battalions rotating as the SFSG I doubt that will happen given the amount of extra training it takes to get the guys up to speed in order to support the SF ie; changing over onto different weapon systems & learning new tatcis for example. It will probably be left to a rotaional system like it is now where guys are sent over for a certain amount of time and others move back to the other battalions.
if you are good enough in depot you can also get put straight into 1 para but by all accounts you have to be pretty shit hot to get it but two lads from the last platoon went straight there and 1 lad from the platoon before so you never know.by the way im in depot at the moment so thats how i know

There is no set time you have to serve in 2 or 3 para before going to 1 para though. You will hear through your platoon staff if they require a soldier to go to 1 Para, and if you fancy it; put your name down. If your platoon staff think you are suitable then you will be given a date to go.
A total of nine joined at the beginning of January, six from 2 PARA and three from Depot... the three soldiers from Depot were regarded by the JNCO's and PL HQ as the most competent and proficient to arrive from recruit traning in a long time.
