Parachute Jumps.

Post by Frankie »

About a week ago when i went to Army careers office in Colly the advisor....bear in mind he was a Viking...started saying how parachute jump training was going to be stopped soon...and this was also before i said to him I 100% want to join paras and nothing will change my mind...so maybe he was just trying to sway me a bit before hand.
This doesnt influence my descision either way its not going to change my mind...but just wondering if anyone ie. a para knows how true this may be?

MOD pissed about with rumouring / confirming / denying this for ages, but sadly it now seems to be confirmed as true. We've been told in 4 PARA that our recruit cadre will be the last ones to do our jumps for a few years; I believe that jump course is in October. There's at least one other going in July.

Unfortunately, doesn't look like either of those will be in time for you, even if you started training today (October is 6 months away, 7 and a bit months Phase 1 + 2 para training before you can do jumps). However, I don't know at all if the last course is in October, so you might well get on one yet. Also, a lot of people are pissed about this, and it's been out in the news a little too - just about possible that the MOD might be shamed into reversing policy if it gets enough attention.

15:43:07 System Welcome to the Online Office. Please be patient, the recruiters are chatting with up to 6 people at the same time. Ask your questions, but please give them time to respond.

Yeah i dont think people join the paras because they want to parachute into battle, they do it because they want to be part of an elite.

You mean the guy at the AFCO, of course

Frankie, like got1 said, it's still the regiment. You won't get the extra pay (which is a f@#k cheat, and don't the MOD know it) which is a bugger, but nothing you can do. You will still complete P-Coy and earn your beret and capbadge. And those two items will still get you deployed at the sharpest bit of the sharp end. For me, that's what makes PARA, not just jumping out of planes.

...also, though new lads at battalion might get a little stick for being penguins now, if this goes ahead, everyone else will be in the same boat, so don't worry about being 'less' anything than the rest.

Oh it doesn't change my mind on wanting to join....With or without the right to parachute they are still the best in my eyes and thats why i want to join them...not so i can jump out of a plane...was just generally wondering.
But i don't see how they're going to make it stick....i know Para reg is a lot more than just parachuting...but the fact they are and always have been the "parachute" regiment kinda undermimes they're name to take it away.
Might as well just call them "The no - longer - Parachuting Regiment".
Just seems silly.

According to a lad i know in 2 PARA, the MoD have had extra funding this year and therefore, parachute training will carry on as usual. This is 2nd hand info though which, i know nobody on here likes, but just thought i's mention it anyway.

We are still getting recruits into 3 Para who are going off to Brize to jump.

I cant see them stopping it completely. It might take longer for joes to get their wings but it will happen eventually.

If your mate is correct, that looks like the start of a policy flip-flop to me. Good good.

MOD keep changing their minds on whether it is true or not SO19. I've heard it down the chain of command in 4 PARA, so it's clearly not a total wah.
