Armed forces views on PND

Curious to know the military's stance on slightly less aggressive and apparent disorders. Namely, NPD and Borderline.

Any rules surrounding the conditions?

I recall reading a post on a rejected member who suffered from tourettes syndrome.

Before you ask, no. I have not recently become a diagnosed psychopath.

Essential Qualfications for a pti

? Medicalising personality traits I think is a bad idea .As long as you can pass for nearly normal and work in a team the military will take you .Get a psych History and they wont bother reading the details and at best defer you .

I remember reading an article about the changing mind set of soldiers. A few soldiers were recorded as getting a little to much enjoyment out of taking down there enemies. They were referred to a psychiatrist. Sound's like bullshit to me, but it's something to think about.

Whats wrong with enjoying your work?

.The militarys job is to kill
people and break things people who enjoy that sort of thing will join it.
The idea of the "tortured warrior" is a media invention imho ok collecting ears may not be an acceptable past time (but everyone needs a hobby

) ,but, Getting the shrinks in because a soldier says he enjoys killing the enemy

its what he is supposed to do .
In civilian society killing is wrong .In the military its part of the job as the sniper in iraq was asked by the reporter "what do you feel when you shoot someone ? " the reply was "recoil"

Im not sure that even in the military getting enjoyment from killing people is ok, yes you can take pleasure in a particularly good shot, or a well executed operation and yes you can enjoy being a soldier, and you dont have to shed tears of unfathomable sadness every time you slot someone, but if you start looking forward to the killing i think that does make you a wee bit not normal, and what are these guys gonna do when they get home, take someone out without even thinking about it

Its only a problem if you see the enemy as people .There just targets if
it surrenders or is captured then it can be a person .If soldiers have a problem dealing with society when they get home they should get help.
But if a sniper decides to keep some photos of his kills I would see that as a tradesman taking pride in his work.

As Dylanredefined pointed out, there is no problem if the enemy are seen as targets. It's when the kills turn into slaughtering, it's the nature of the kill.

Hmm maybe because im still a "civie" but i find this a tad disturbing. I mean a sculptor taking photos of a piece they have made and sold then yes i can see this but a pic of a dead body? Not sure about that! I agree its the nature of the kill though. Plus its all very well us talking about it but until we do it its another story.

The topic was initially based around potential recruits mentalities. However the thread was slightly hijacked, and became an opinionated observation on serving soldiers mental states. My views are not designed around my expectations of what it is like to kill.

Therefore, my mouth remains open on the issue.

The military recruitment system will see any psych history as a problem.
It perfers to drive recruits insane itself .Having them already cracked to begin with spoils all the fun

.

Wether those that join the armed forces display certain traits is debatable .

I saw a programme last night about some chap with Narcissistic Personality Disorder who murdered both his parents.
