Magnums
Magnums
Howdy, just wondering if anyone owns a pair? As every time I go on a feild ex I seem to come back with a blister the size of 2 x 2p coins, Iv tried using zink tape and chemcicals but none seem to work!
So I think the boots are the problem.
Thinking on getting some magnums as you may have noticed from the thread. The only place I get blisters are on my heel, do they have padding there or anything?
Also if they get wet are they a pain to dry out?
Cheers

Stay well away from Magnums mate, there are better boots going for a lot less money that will offer you better quility. Personally i have found lowa mountain boots very Practical and worth the money. However there are plenty of boots that would be worth a look at. such as hanwag, Pro boot and altbergs.
Hope that helps.

Many police forces swear by magums, but i don't see what all the fuss is about, even as an urban boot they aren't all that. There are far beter boots you can buy especially for military use. Alt Berg boots are pretty highly rated.

I've got a pair of magnums, they have padding on the sides to allow give on the ankle.
They're easy to run in and I've not encountered any problems with them yet but on the otherhand, there are alot better out there.
If you do get Magnums, make sure to get the pair with padded shin guards, as it gives your feet more support.
I was advised to get a foreign make, when I can remember I'll let you know what it is.

Have you tried wearing another pair of socks or perhaps getting some adhesive padding from your chemist and sticking it on the heal, or perhaps a one for one for a smaller pair of boots.
Magnums really aren't that good when you're out in the field. I used to have a couple of pairs, and found the all leather ones pretty much fell apart after not that much use at all. They might be good for running in but I don't think they offer the support a boot needs to which is one of the reasons they're banned in a lot of places I think. As people have said, there are better boots like lowa (I've had a pair for a couple of years now and they're a good buy) and pro boots. Also heard good things about matterhorns.
Thanks for all the quick replys guys, I'm liking the idea of some sort of gel padding, going to go the chemists tomorrow probably.
I usually wear two pairs of socks with zink oxide tape, this combination was ok for a weekend where we covered 30km but as soon as we started speed marching the zink oxide tape seemed to come off or get torn through at some points.
My dad also mentioned putting loads of vaseline on the heel then bashing it with a hammer or something to soften up the heel, has anyone ever heard of anything like that before?

I've got myself some 1000mile socks (I got mine for normal running, not for running in boots but I'm sure they would still work). You can get them on the internet/ebay etc. they guarantee no blisters and they have worked for me, best £5 I've ever spent, anyone having any blister problems should give them a try. I would advise against using vaseline as this will only soften the skin, making them more vulnerable to blisters in the long run. hope this helps
When I said vaseline into the heel, I meant heel of the boot to soften that up- not the heel of my foot. I baught some anti friction socks yesterday I'll see how I get on with them (a bit like 1000 mile socks). As I usually wear two pairs of socks, I'm going to try one thick pair which somone reccomended.
