Kimberly,

1 It could be that there is a blockage in the Eustachian tube, that is the part past your eardrum. This can be caused by a swelling or mucus. this causes the pressure on the eardrum not to be balanced so stretching the eardrum and therefore pain in the ear.
As Illustrious states you can 'clear' your ears by holding your nose, keeping your mouth closed and 'blowing'. Swallowing or yawning are just as good

Having a cold or catarrh can also affect your Eustachian tubes so never dive in that condition.

2 Your Eustachian tube could be clear but you could have a blockage of the outer ear due to a build=up of wax.

You can get treatment from a chemist to deal with this. Otherwise see your doctor.

Never dive with earplugs.

Take it slowly let your ears ajust to the pressure change.

Regarding B. Hur, Chariots have been 'driven' underwater. :D :D

Cheers for the info guys!
When pinching the nose and breathing out through it,would you let any air at all come out even momentarily or just keep it pinched?
Reason I ask is I have been trying your methods just sitting here and find only one ear pops but if i slightly let air out through the nostril corresponding to the 'non-popped' ear then they both equalise, but don't know if this would work underwater?
I'll be in the pool this week so can try all this anyway.
Does anyone on here know for certain how deep the swimming pool at RM Poole is?The website states brick retrieval from 5m,but with discourse with a couple of members on here they seem sceptical it is indeed of that depth?
Anyone know for 100%?
Cheers!

Take a deep breath and relax..3 or 5 metres it's not an overly hard test. Co-oncidentally that first bit of advice applies for the test itself!

As "Illustrious" says

You can clear your ears by holding your nose and blowing.!
However, you would be much better advised to keeping your mouth closed!

Swallowing and yawning are reserved for the readers of this post.!!

Sorry if this post is a bit bitchy and negative. Just had a bitchy and negative day!!
