A Wheeze

Post by eagleeye »

I have a slight wheeze when i sleep at night but it doesn't affect my training what so ever.
But my Doctor says its Asthma!!!!!!
Anyways my AFCO says that Dr's sometimes get it wrong and that I should just go for it.
Can I please have some opinions because its hit me pretty badly that I might not even make PRMC
Thanks

Eagleeye if was you I would have a go mate!

Listen to you AFCO they know what they are talking about. What you got to lose, go through the selection process and when it comes to your medical see what the doctor says.

It’s always best to get a second opinion so when you have a medical you may find out it was nothing.

Have a look at that if your worried mate.

It's actually worried me a lot becuase that opening paragraph has pretty much summed me up and how I feel after/during a run. Maybe I should get myself down the Doc's....

Alright mate I was just out for a run down the beach and there was a gail of cold wind blowing and after it I was kind of weezey but i was still able to breath ok just some mucus in the chest. Lucky for me my sister is a doctor and she said that in cold weather thats normal in fact she was kind of laughing at me over it. I suppose we all get worried as we want everything to go as right as possible so as to get into RT. I passed my medical recently and blew 700 on the peak flow and the doc said that thats really good. So give it a try you never know. Anyone else get kinda chesty after running in the cold.

hey marinewannabee when you got put out for asthma like symptoms what exactly was the story were you exercising and someone heard you going all chesty or did you report sick with symptoms. I bet you were able to breath fine and it was just a chest infection or something. As you said no ones perfect and given the weather we get, things like this are to be expected. Its not exactly like the US Marines who do recruit training in Downtown San Diego, California.

First of all sorry for kinda hijavking this thread.

I was diagnosed with pollen induced asthma and given an inhaler a couple of years back but it turned out to be a chest infection. I should be about four years clear by time I apply after my A-levels (i'm in the first year at the moment) but would I be refused if I was to apply now?

Thanks for any help ,

Matt

Im sure your AFCO will take into consideration that it was a mis-diagnosis, they might ask for some medical records at the time or wait until you have to do your medical. Im not quite sure on that one but as i said, they should take the mistake into consideration.

Go through the process, and see what the medical comes up with. Doctor told me I could have Meningitis about 4 weeks ago. Turned out to be a Kidney Infection. But he told me to come back the next day if I felt worse, surely hospital would of been a better idea lol.

Nope sorry to be blunt mate , the afco can't do jack it's not there decision . That would be sent down to the medical board who would instantly dismiss you application due to having an inhaler in the last four years doesn't matter if you have all the proof in the world that it wasn't asthma you have to wait the four years im afraid matey, its policy .only one more year to wait matey and im sure having a -levels will only help you in life.

Cheers guys. I suppose it doesn't matter to much for m at least just crack on with the phys and i'm going to have a word with my AFCO as to when I should start the process to try and get on a PRMC as soon as I finish college.
Cheers' for the help,

Matt

Fellas, no one can say they are in perfect health, i dont wheeze, but when i come from a cold place into a warm place, or when im in an enviroment with lots of dust, i hear an ever so slight 'whistle' when exhaling, when i first joined i was only 2 and a half years clear of inhalers, and when i had a really bad cold in rt i was given a blue reliever, and was told to crack on, that was last year and just passed my 2nd medical! Just bear that in mind.
