Whilst I like the ideas coming forward for next year I must point out some basics.
Firstly it is impossible to use any form of lottery system as this would have to be sanctioned by the lotteries and gaming commission, for which there is also a huge charge. This would also mean the taking out of extensive Insurance policies. So sorry everyone this is a non starter.

The running of a simple Draw using a ticket system has to also be rubber stamped and Insurance taken out to ensure that any donated items can be bought should said donated item not be forth coming.

Whilst we are all striving towards making next year even better we all have to remember this is not just about raising MONEY but it is about bringing the family members together for an enjoyable weekend.

The organisation of YOMP 30 is now set out as a commercial (non profit) company and this will be run as such. The aim is to ensure that the event is organised well without political misgivings stepping into the fray. To this end I have asked that Mr & Mrs Parry step up to become the main organisers along with myself.

This year was a great weekend and I have to say that most have praised the efforts put in by El Prez and Nursie, long may it continue.

Roll on 2004
Details are being prepared for next years event and will be on the web site by the end of July.

I didn't think the 4 digit number system was a lottery as such, and maybe the use of the word lottery was misleading. It's really just a raffle, with the winning ticket being drawn in a 'lottery' style method to make it more interesting. Isn't it the same as drawing a 4 digit raffle ticket out of a hat, but we would be doing it with a bit more style and excitement!
Also, the only prize would be the 30 X £20 notes, so 'donated' items wouldn't come in to it. Just a thought, as it would mean people couldn't change their minds about paying their dues!

Well done Rob and Elaine, that ensures it will be a huge success!

Sorry RB but anything where numbers are drawn to make a winning line and tickets sold is classified as a lottery unfortunatly, and as such is governed by gaming laws as it is a game of chance which can be fixed. This makes the setting up a major head ache as there are so many guidelines to follow especially as the sale of tickets would be national.

It will still be a bit of a nightmare for a normal draw as you still have to get approval. Then if we aim to sell through to guys in the corps we need MOD approval as well along with a heap of paper work as we are a civilian operation.

Nothing is ever EASY!

The fact is that we have done exceptionaly well for such a small team in what we raised this year anyway, So from me a big big THANK YOU to you all hopefully final figures will be in this week.
If anyone has any money to collect please let me know ASAP.

How about the slogan;

If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough!

There`s a cracking song to go with it by a guy called Roger Alan Wade.
Lyrics are;

"IF YOU'RE GONNA BE DUMB, YOU GOTTA BE TOUGH"

I DRENCHED MY BRAIN WITH ROT-GUT WHISKEY
UNTIL ALL MY PAIN WAS CHICKEN FRIED
I HAD DUDES WITH BADGES FRISK ME
TEACH ME HOW TO SWALLOW PRIDE
I TOOK ADVICE NO FOOL WOULD TAKE
I GOT SOME HABITS I CAN'T SHAKE
I AIN'T THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER, BUT I KNOW ENOUGH, TO KNOW,
IF YOU'RE GONNA BE DUMB, YOU GOTTA BE TOUGH

IF YOU'RE GONNA BE DUMB, YOU GOTTA BE TOUGH
WHEN YOU GET KNOCKED DOWN, YOU GOTTA GET BACK UP
THAT'S THE WAY IT IS IN LIFE AND LOVE

IF YOU'RE GONNA BE DUMB, YOU GOTTA BE TOUGH

I'VE BEEN UP AND DOWN AND DOWN AND OUT
I'VE BEEN LEFT AND RIGHT AND WRONG
YEAH, I'VE WALKED THE WALK AND I'VE RUN MY MOUTH
I'VE BEEN ON THE SHORT END FOR TOO LONG
BUT IF THEY GAVE MEDALS FOR HONKYTONK WARS
HELL, I'D PUT MINE IN MY CHEST OF DRAWERS
WITH MY IRS BILLS AND DIVORCE PAPERS AND ALL THAT STUFF

IF YOU'RE GONNA BE DUMB, YOU GOTTA BE TOUGH

IF YOU'RE GONNA BE DUMB, YOU GOTTA BE TOUGH
WHEN YOU GET KNOCKED DOWN, YOU GOTTA GET BACK UP
I AIN'T THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER, BUT I KNOW ENOUGH TO KNOW

IF YOU'RE GONNA BE DUMB, YOU GOTTA BE TOUGH

Bit of a Yank slant, but quite appropriate in some ways.
Once....................... Always...tup, three

Outstanding!! It seems the G&L saw sense... "I wasn't serious about burning their offices down if they didn't put anything in this issue, honest officer!"
Drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed...

Well done the Yompers and well done El Prez for the informative and amusing article. I felt guilty before for not clearing my diary to take part, I feel even worse now. I suppose there will be no excuse for missing a parade next June.

The total Raised by the Yompers to date, after all costs have been met, stands at a grand total of £6045

Well done to all who took part and lets see whether 2004 can live up to the 2003 wet T shirt outing.

Colin

You've told us that the amount raised 'to date' (15th August) is £6045.

Does that mean there are still those people arguing about whether they should pay up or not?

Do we now know who was awarded the Yomper statue for gathering the most sponsorship money? I know it wasn't me  as my ol' pal John Frost rang me a few days after the event to shoot me down in flames!

It would be good to see the yomp30 website updated with the latest information, and maybe a list of those who took part, for posterity.

When do you see SSAFA getting their share of the sponsorship money, and will it be publicised?

RB yes we still have a trickle effect with some people, though it is only small amounts outstanding, and a few who would not pay up as we never completed the 30 miles.... mmmm off my crimbo list and on to the gas pellet through letter box list....

The statue will be going to........
yes it has been decided though I am trying to arrange to deliver it and get pics taken.

After much deliberation and after many failed promises from SSAFA with regards to help support and our need to phone to find out if money we send had arrived, even though we asked for confirmation, after three a month delay. A decission was made as to the amount to be given and we hope to get arrangements made for a cheque, larger than life, to be handed over along with pics taken for the press.

The names side of things will go on the site soon as I am re-designing it so we can have a section for each year. Time has been one thing in short supply for the last few weeks.

Due to Rob's ill health and school holidays, there has been a delay in getting next years event sorted out. It is hoped that full details will be on the site soon along with forms and all the plans and payment options.
