RM Specializations
RM Specializations
Just a few questions about RM specializations:
1) how long after passing out can a marine/YO expect to specialize
2) Does your education influence what you can specialize in and the speed they'll allow you to specialize (ie:someone with a degree being sent straight to specialize)
3)what is the highest sought after specialization (most applications)
4) what is the least favourable specialization
thanx fellas

YOs and Marines are very different. As a YO your first draft (I'm 99% certain) will be as a troop commander in a grav unit to cut your teeth. As a Mne you can specialise straight away in some branches, some require you to have minimum service (usually a year), some require you to be eligible for promotion (have a B grade RoRRs report, which you're not likely to get for a coupla years unless you're a really bright spark).
2. No
3. ML, PTI, Aircrew, Anti-tanks all popular.
4. Chef, Clerks, Stores Accountant, to a lesser extent Drives and Sigs (not so much less favourable, just two of the biggest branches in the Corps so they're always hanging out for blokes).

Is Marine police a popular one? Just wondering as it was one of the ones i had thought about aiming for (providing i get into the marines of course).

I wouldn't say hated. I found RMP's to be generally good lads and they have a job to do, they all seemed to know the difference between lads arsing about and things that need to be clamped down on. They got me and others out of the shit on occaisions so I'm biased I supposeHe made out that they were generally hated

As far as I know, yes but they are officers. NC Marines are the crew of the helicopter but do not fly it.Skanza wrote:You mention Aircrew.druadan wrote: 3. ML, PTI, Aircrew, Anti-tanks all popular.

Very very few RM pilots, if any, still in service, and certainly no recruitment from the ranks; as far as I'm aware it's not a path available to officers anymore either, but don't quote me. If you want to be a pilot, it's either RAF or Navy as an officer, or Army Air Corps where the majority of helos are flown by SNCOs (or so their adverts around here say).
