how do i convince parent's that royal artillery is not c9ap

any ideas on how to convince my family that the royal artillery is not a step down from the royal marine's basically the marine's will take way to long for me to get into because my fitness is not that great and will take a long time to get to the level needed secondly ill think ill enjoy a career in the royal artillery as either a light gunner or special observer

To be honest if being a Marine is what you really want to do in your heart then try and do that. Wouldn't a extra month training be worth it if it leads to a career in what you always wanted to do rather than your 2nd or maybe even 3rd choice.

we are talking a bit longer than a month in reality 5 months if im lucky the draw is if i go down this route i can get my green brete in said regiment instead of doing a boring job (if i can get said job) while doing fitness training for the prmc this is a carefully made descision that has taken a good few months to decide and is also a good route into things like 148 sqn what i loose out on are opportunites to have another go at doing a levels and im 19 just get rid of a lot of tention and irrtating comments like your wasting your time why are you throwing your life away ect ect ect they just dont like the army period

if your 19 and thats what you wanna do then follow your heart. you should have to convince any one at that age. go for it mate.

At the end of the day you are an adult and it's your decision, not your parents. You are the one who has to live with the choice you made, not them. Follow the career path that appeals to you the most and which is likely to make you happier in the long term.

Also, threaten your parents that you will run off and become a transexual lap dancer in defiant protest of their interfering ways.

hate to say this but the royal artillery is a step down from the royal marines.

you say 5 months to get fit enough. well from application to prmc is like 3 months bare minimum, it could easily be more.
that means two months of fitness and then you start the ball rolling which isnt that long.

I wouldn't agree that Royal Artillery is a step down from Marines, its a different trade requiring different skills. You still have to be fit to be a gunner, and of course you can always go 29cdo Reg

However, I don't know if I'm alone in this, when I first read your post it seemed as if to you it was second best, 'I can't be fit enough for the marines so artilary it is' sort of thing. Perhaps if you came across more as if you truelly wanted to join the RA then your parents would support your choice.

Never go for second best, if the marines is where your heart is then wait that extra time and train. If your heart has truelly changed its aim then you need to make sure you communicate that.

a samll part of it the main reason is tho the job sounds a lot more apealing than doing mainly infantry for 2 years also the idea of working with the light gunn as well as a lot of work looks like it can be very enjoyabale. of course i dont need parent's permission but would be nice to have faimly and friends at my pass out parade not to mention it would be better to go to basic with faimly's support

Do what you want to do and you won't go far wrong. Each branch of the Armed Forces are trained to be good at what they do. Be they RM or RA.

I was in exactly the same position as you DANTAE, many months ago now i wasnt sure wether i was up for the Marines and was looking at different options and the 1 that really caught my eye was joining RA and then moving onto 29cdo from there and getting the coveted Green Beret that way and i still like that idea but it aint what i wanted deep down so i gave myself a kick up the arse and made myself turn into a fitness freak haha

as i decided i'm going to follow my heart wich was to go for the Marines first and give it my all no matter how long it will take to get through selection!!! so 6 months on from sending aplication off here i am waiting for PRMC date and couldnt be happy with my choice but thats just me mate.

Do what ever you feel happy in doing pal and make the choice that you want regardless to what your family think and i wish you all the best in the future
