Exercise IN the army
Exercise IN the army
hi guys
lot of threads about training to get in. I'm just wondering what the exercise regime is in the army? Is it up to the soldier to keep fit?
Or have they got 'organised' training?
thanks in advance

The sessions vary and depending on your fitness you may find that sometimes when running as a group the session is not demanding enough. To some extent you will probably have to undertake an exercise regime organised by yourself.
thanks for clearing that up!

Regular serving soldiers can look forward to various training exercises , organised sessions and sports afternoons.
Normally PT is carried out 3 times a week ( Mon , Wed and Fri ) depending on operational comitments . Wed for some Bn is Sports afternoon but again this is dependant on unit.
I've served with Companies that carry out planned training daily but some times this is a little too much and the guys need rest amongst their daily trg program.
While on tour to places like Bosnia , Iraq and alike most fitness is down to yourself becuase organised platoon / Coy fitness sessions are difficult to adere to becuase of your operational comitments...
Their are times when you are pulled away from your regular departments to carry out promotional type courses they normally require a much higher standard of fitness so this is something you will need to build up to prior to course start..

If this is true things have certainly changed. Going back a few years now but the norm for a soldier serving in an infantry battalion would have been to participate in organised PT for 5 days out of the week (mon-fri) with the weekend off for rest (unless otherwise engaged). If physical training for more than 3 days out of 7 is too much for some serving soldiers I'm sure I wouldn't be alone in thinking that their standard of fitness or motivation levels surely require improving.Normally PT is carried out 3 times a week ( Mon , Wed and Fri ) depending on operational comitments . you are not alone but its dependant on what level of fitness is carried out during the week ... I my self class my self as pretty fit for a 34 year old and with 3 bouts of fitness per week its ample to keep me on top of things..Citizen X wrote:

Some times its more than 3 times a week but the normal training program incl 3 fitness sessions a week
Monday - Circuits in the Gym followed by a Gentle run
Wedesday - 8 mile run or similar
Friday - Combat PT or Circuits
But with limitations of PT staff circuits is hard to come by , with the amount of operation comitments at the moment scheduled fitness is also hard to come by...
