Training and Illness

Post by LostandFound »

Just wondering what your opinion is on training whilst ill. When I say ill, I just mean a head cold, like when there's a lot of pressure in your head and all bunged up. I seem to get this quite regularly (probably because of my work environment) which obviously interupts training which I just can't afford to happen at the minute. Do you think a bit of light training (gentle jogging etc) would actually help get rid?

What about good foods to eat - I know garlic is meant to be good, and spicy foods etc. But does anyone have any good tips on foods to help get rid of illness and stay rid of it too?

Also, is anyone running in the ToughGuy race on 28th?

Although some might say that theres nothing wrong with training with a cold, thats absolute crap. You need to stop training and rest as training will most likely make it 100x worse.

I always used to find myself falling ill because of the hard training i was doing (every 3-5 weeks). However i started to blend a mixture of fresh fruit (2 apples, 2 pears, 2 bananas) including milk and optional 2 eggs for protien. Now i dont remember the last time i was ill since i started having this as its a bloody good source of vitamin C etc. It only takes a few minutes to prepare and it tastes good too (easier to swallow than a solid apple/pear)- i mix some val icecream with it too to cool it down.

I know a bunch of people doing Tough guy (including an old mfat member and a non-serving Marine) - i would have gone but my PRMC stops me.

i personnally train even when ive got a cold, i know this is bad for ya as it weakens your immune system . i also go into the old sauna after a work out and have just been told by an ex army pti who i train with that this is very bad for you when your ill has it can scar your lungs (not sure if this just applies to cold/flu)

i'll always train even though ill, granted it wont be as intense but i cant stand not training then trying to get back into it after a week of nothing as we all know its painful.

definatly go with the fruti that jcap recommended, help boost your immune system no end

Before you insult someone, first walk a mile in their shoes, that way when you insult them, you are a mile away and you have their shoes.

Its just those vitamin tabs you can get in holland and barret. They say you dont need water and can chew them, but the multi vitamin tabs were the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted

Yeah the guys writing it have certainly got a sense of humour. I'm running it but its my first one, I know a couple of people who have ran it before and they said its very tough, but they both did the summer one so I imagine with the freezing water temps it will be even more fun in winter
