HELP! Press Ups...Sorry

Post by maritime_marine »

Hey guys, im new to mfat and this is my first post. Ive been searching page after page in the forums for a good push up plan but i havent founf anything as of yet. Ive been training for a few months now from scratch but my push ups havent improved alot at all, i can get 20 with a push!

If anybody had a good push up routine or plan that they could send my way then i would be very grateful.

well i find the set of exercises in the wee green booklet helpfull. Its easier if you say what your doing now and people will be able to see the faults.

i have tried RGJ's program too and find it truly worthwhile... a fantastic all rounder that helps improve your strength and muscular endurance, which has a positive 'knock on' effect for your press ups.

One i have been doing for the last few weeks is 150 Marine style pressups in as few sets as possible, for time.

Today was my 13th attempt. I do 2 days "on," 1 day rest taking particular interest in the number i can bang out in the first set. Every day is a new personal best!
Today i managed 55, yesterday 54, two days before that 53.

The first time i tried it, it took me 17minutes. Now i can do it between 14/15 minutes in 6 sets, instead of my original 7.
I am nearly down to 5 sets.
Write down
1-53
54-82
83-104 etc, and try and beat that every attempt.

Its not the most imaginative press-up routine on the planet, but the number of reps are there.

Give it a try. As i say, i have only been doing it for 13 go's, and progress hasnt slowed yet.

RGJ's pyramid routine is awesome. REALLY knackering, but works a treat.
I have only stopped doing that as i messed up my shoulder, i think by performing dips incorrectly.

All the best

That Pyramid is good but im gettin some callouses(Spelling?) on my hands from my pull up bar :(
Before you insult someone, first walk a mile in their shoes, that way when you insult them, you are a mile away and you have their shoes.

You could try using weight lifting gloves. But calluses don't really hurt so they shouldn't be to much of a problem to your training. If you google it there are quit a few sites with Treatment tips.
Applied: Aug 06
Broke arm: 03/09/2006
Psychometric: 06/10/2006(Passed)

Waiting on arm.

Briggfoot what days do you do that press up thing? Ive just started doing 100 in as few sets as possible. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Should i do more? Ive only done it twice so far but had some improvments i think.

I found this plan on the net:

Basically you start at step 1 and after you can do that for 5 days in a row then you move to the next step? Aparently some guy in the army used this to give his troops better press up scores?

1) 10x10
2) 7x15
3) 5x204
4) 4x25
5) 4x30
6) 3x40
7) 2x50
8) 1x75 + 1x25
9) 1x85 + 1x15
10) 1x90 + 1x10
11) 1x100

Is that any good?
