RM Accomodation

Just out of interest, does anyone (out of training) know what the accomodation is like at RM bases for singlies, ie single man rooms, project SLAM and the like? I know that its an ongoing process for upgrading accomodation and was quite lucky (near the end anyway) with my last Barrack Block whilst in the RAF, one of the new 'Superblocks', en-suite single man style. Is there much of that type of accomodation available at RM bases? Its not really a pressing concern, as I have lived in some pretty crappy barrack blocks before and it wont put me off joining, but just curious about it.

when i was watching an RM training video the officers had grouped dorms...or maybe separate. i dont think they have big full metal jacket dorms anymore

Do not take my word for this, but i think the 16man PRMC acommadation is as bad/packed as it gets. Please correct me if i am wrong, if no, i will soon find out in Feb

MoD cut costing will re-institute the old wooden WW2 Nissen huts to
what was ITCRM and is now CTC. You will be double tiered 24 to a
hut. Your personal weapon will be chained and locked to your metal
bunk frame.Your section NCO will be at the end of the hut in a small
cabin made of lockers. He will be near the heads which will be immaculate.
There will be a pot bellied coal burning stove in the center of the hut to
keep you warm. Alas it will be burnished as will the coal buckets and
the contents therein painted white. It will never perform its original task,
even in winter. All light flexes to overhead bulbs will be painted white.
So feel happy in your new Ritz and think of what you might once have endured
you big 'softies'.

Units are slowly getting SLAMmed, I think Poole is done, Logs is done although some of the rooms in refurbished old blocks are very small, the fighting units are at least on the way to being done. The rooms are a good size, basic but comfortable, built in furnishings and normally an en-suite shower and toilet. The height of luxury! TV sockets, and phone lines (if you pay BT £80 to get them connected). They've had some problems with damp and peeling paint, so they've definitely been built to a budget! We've got a communal living room and a communal I'M A SCAMMER SPAMMER!!! between ten rooms, the I'M A SCAMMER SPAMMER!!! has a fridge, microwave and coupla sinks, *hopefully* they'll give us an oven and hob when PAYD comes in so we can cook our own scran instead of paying over the odds for it.

You have to pay for food each time you get it? Do you not pay a set price for food that comes out of your salary automatically? Or is that just the army? Sounds like it could work out quite expensive each week

Accom is ok actually to be fair, foundation is a nightmare though, you start getting each others nerves and some dick always has his phone going off an hour before you need to!

Dude in foundation some nights I was getting 3 hrs a night lol, nerves as well of course.

The 6 man rooms are much better, but you get f***** around something chronic when you first move in with inspections and what not.

Yeah, I was told thid by a few guys, it is all part of the experience i guess.

Ha we've got an inspection monday morning and drill aswell.....joys. And i havn't even started to bull my boots as there a new pair! (someone who can't open order march properly decided to take a chunk out of my bulled pair......c**t!) i've heard inspections stop after around week 10?? how often did you have inspection before that bud?

My training team has kind of stopped inspections now, which is good, but you still need to keep your lockers squared away, because when some c**t farks up they like to make us unlock our lockers just before we go to a lecture or something, then when you return you always see a trail of peoples kit up the stairs and in the corridors which is hilariouse when it aint any of yours!! But before week 10 we had inspections at least once a day, and i think our record was like 5 in one day-disadvantage of having one of your cpls living on board!!
