OK Guys - Take it easy

There are various theories about this subject all bodies are different - we all go on what makes us work the best, and one style might not suit all.

Take a look at these;

Optimum nutrition bible - Patrick Holford
Serious training for endurance athletes - Sleamaker/Browning.

Don't get too abusive or we just have to lock the thread or pull posts something we don't want to do!

Fair enough, fair enough.

But i had to defend what i had typed up, im sorry if you disagree with that but im standing by what i have said. Once again i never intended for this to end up in an arguement, or a 'heated debate'.

I dont want to make enemies on this forum and i have no intention of ever doing so. Just going to forget about this now ok.

Yeah thats ok, i used to train similar to that. That type of training is for two things: Size & Power/Strength. Trust me it wont help you with stamina (as it says dont go till failure!!!). Take it from me ok, that wont do you any good for the corps.

Remember, hes approaching this from a bodybuilders perspective, i've seen and done it. Its no good for the corps mate.

Hey just signed on here from the other military forums.

I've being trying out something I found in mens health magazine awhile back. Rather than trying to just say add bulk or increase strength etc try splitting up using different sorts of reps.

It's done by some personal trainer in America in his gym or something but he's tested the theory over the last decade on various people wanting to get fitter etc.

Basically you split 3 gym sessions over doing strength (low reps heavy weight) a medium maybe for bulk this one im not sure (standard weight normal rep range 2x10) and endurance (lower weights higher reps 3x15)

just wondered what you all thought as a build up over time? I chucked alot of pushups, situps into the mix and its helped me quite abit. Also the strength day seems to increase across the board allowing you to up say 1kg every couple of weeks which is quite useful if you want to reach a certain goal.

but anyways just wondered what you thought

regards

Yeah i think i've read that before on their website. It looked ok to me, i haven't tried it myself so im not sure whether it would work for me or not. The 'low reps with heavy weight' sounds more like a type of power lifting training to me, which is ideal for certain type(s) of strength. Endurance session looks a bit like a classic one though, i would have thought more sets or more reps but i imagine from the other training it might be counter productive to do so.

Still, good find.

With the supplements - Whey Protien drinks will NOT give you energy! You dont get energy from protien! Protien is used to build tissue, in your case, muscle!

Wicked.
with resepct, to some of your good advice that you like to give.
One of Proteins main functions is repairing torn/damaged muscle tissue, however...Protein can also provide energy; 1 gram provides 17 kJ (4 kcal)

17kj is equal to 4 calories which is sod all - that means that 100grams of chicken has 120 calories - INCORRECT.

I personally reckon that deep in the bowels of the MOD they have these "Experts" who have nought better to do than create hassle for potential Royal Marine Recruits.

As far as I am concerned as long as you have all the bits n bobs in the right places and can hack the training you will be Ok. As I have said countless times before the average Trained Royal Marine on hacking the Commando course is normally about average height and average weight (in some cases blokes will be [By the book] underweight!).

Blokes built like a brick shithouse on joining the Corp tend not to stay the course. Mainly because they have real problems with the bits where agility is required. I.E. The Tarzan and Assault course, the Endurance course. Even the 30 foot ropes. Because they are carrying excess weight.

Later on in their career some blokes will balloon into real versions of Hagar the Horrible. At the grand old age of 27 I went for what was called a PULHEEMS. It's a check up done by the Navy to make sure your Ok. Fecking Doctor told me that I was overweight!!! At the time I weighed in at just under 16 stone and I was 5" 11" tall. I was fit as a fiddle and informed the Doctor that if he wanted me to I would be quite happy to run ten miles wearing a full fighting order and rifle if he did the same.......The Doctor saw the stupidity of his statement and passed me as fit.

These days however the Corp to my mind are far to picky and this has resulted in the Corp being 1,000 men below strength. In my day you didn't do a PRMC but joined at Deal in Kent and then did ten days of tests. At the end of the ten days they said yes or no as to you joining full time the Corp of Royal Marines to do the Commando course.

Heres my Troop after the ten days at Deal:

Sorry! That was us at our last reunion!

Actually, he's right so I'm not sure why you dismiss it with such certainty... Here you go AJ: http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/handouts/m ... rients.htm
