i thoroughly enjoyed watching it! shows you what the blokes out there are facing every single day. i just think its a shame that it was shown on a sunday night. not exactly prime time! people should REALLY be made aware of what our forces are dealing with out in iraq/afghanistan, but no, theyd rather worry about whos doing who in corrie or eastenders

Sunday night is the most prime time spot you can get. People will watch what they want to. I found the program intresting, i didnt think there would be that much help (info on taliban positions) from the local people as there was. I found the bit with the afghan cops telling the marines where the taliban were because they were all high on drugs and fancied an easy night, hilarious.

Why? I wouldn't expect my bird or my mates to be more intrested in whats going on in afghanistan rather than eastenders, because its not all that interesting to most people. Theres a hell of a lot of coverage of the wars in afghan and iraq in the papers and on telly all the time.
people should take an interest in what's going on in the world, rather than the sh*te on tv and magazines, poeple who dont care what is going on in iraq, afghan ,africa etc deserve no respect and they ought to wake up to the real world
I found this Panorama very interesting, although i do not think british televison will allow us to see what exactly is going on, and how bad it may be.

I personally like to know things, i read the papers and watch the news but i dont expect everyone to want to know the worlds current affairs. People do what makes them happy and if they prefer to watch eastenders rather than a program about a war then thats fine by me.

yes people will watch what they want to, but i never said that they should take an interest, i said that they should be made aware.
ignorance is not a good thing. im in a bad mood cos ive been getting a lot of verbal from people who dont get why im joining (girlfriend) , i just think if people knew what was going on they would be better placed to tell me what they think about it! but youre right lodgi, its a free country and people can do what they want
Well, unfortunately this Royal Marines documentary is purhaps the only positive thing on tv about our troops. I wouldnt be suprised if the journalists are carefully watching the troops for ANY slip-up or human error and that'll be the new anti-military news story slapped on the front page of the sun etc.

MADE aware? they put this show on telly, what more do you want? If people choose not to watch, what do you do? Go round knocking on doors making them watch it?
AJtothemax, yeah it is a free country so what do you mean?
lodgi - c'mon man, all im saying is the majority of the people in this country do not know what is happening overseas with our troops because theyre far more interested in big brother or some other sh*t and seeing as our servicemen and women are putting their lives on the line, i think the least we can do is learn a little of what theyre going through for us and show a little more appreciation. thats just my view.
Yeah johnno I agree people should take an interest. It's I read too many messages on here from fellow potentials who are always kncoking people for not wanting to join the services or taking an interest in current military affairs. Not everyone is the same, some people are just not interested in that sort of stuff, my mother would be a good example. Shes a teacher and well educated, but she's not interested in the war, she'd rather watch "i'm a celebraty" than a documentary on the forces.
I feel I have to admit I was expecting better... i think the whole thing had an air of cushion about it (but i cant pinpoint what makes me think this)
I don't know if its because i read the blogs of it and have seen clips from it on the internet than made it an average programme for me.
You watch and you are told that its heavy fighting, yet everyone seems fairly relaxed whilst supposidly in an ambush. You see the guys firing their GPMG's - but at what? Sitting watching it, you really struggle to grasp what its like - even with it right infront of you (if that makes any sence whatsoever).
I can't speak from personal experience so please take what i'm saying as an observation of the programme. I take nothing away from what the marines are doing out there, i take my hat off every time and would join them if i could. Maybe i've just watched black hawk down too many times and am unaware of the reality. Maybe.
