If you get injured in foundation do you automatically get sent home or do you go to hunter troop?Daveb got sent home but was that because his injury is long term?Just wondering!

We had one lad who injured his back at the end of week 2 (about 2 days before we moved out of foundation), but as he did the injury there, he was put into hunter. When he's out of hunter he has to repeat foundation though, which is a shame. So yeah, if you get the injury there, you'll most probably get put in Hunter.

One lad in week 3 did his cruciate ligaments in. He's gonna have a 6 month wait in hunter then has to start from week 3.

Yep, you got it right mate, I was MD'd in week 4 because of an injury that re-occured that I had before.

What do you do in Hunter (apart from work on recovering from your injury obviously)?

Do they get you doing all the crap jobs that no one else wants to do? Or do you get a chance to swot up on the theory side of things?
Aways look on the bright side of life.

The guy who had the back injury said that it is fairly boring, though you do occasionally get to do good things. For example he played the role of a civilian on a Navy ship and was rescued! But yeah, apparently it is very boring in phase one of hunter.

Phase 2 of hunter is apparently crap. All you do is kit musters and PT and its a real head f***

Hey Dave, i was meaning to ask you about the first 2 weeks of RT. I remember you said it was crap, could you go into details please? What kind of things do you do etc? What made week 3 and beyond better?

Thanks mate.

Yeah sure mate, no worries...

Basically the reason foundation so crappy is because you are literally ironing whenever you get 2 minutes free. After foundation, you get a 'little' more free time but still not that much. I guess what makes foundation worse is the transition from civvie to military and you are always collecting and naming kit! haha.

If you just knuckle down and get on with it, it isnt so bad, but a lot of the lads hated foundation for different reasons.

Hip injury mate. Still not had a proper diagnosis of what it is to be exact, though its round the Sacro-Illiac joint. They said I can return though when I am 100% over it.

Sorry Dave you have probably explained this in a previous post somewhere but I take it you have had MRI, Bone Scans, CT Scans, x-rays ect?

I was diagnosed with a hip muscle problem called Piraformis Syndrome, until I got it checked out by a specialist had the scans and found out that I fractured my left femoral neck!

Physio told me to run through the pain, the tw&t!

All the best mate

I had an xray and that's about it mate. The GP said he couldnt do no more and have to see an orthopeadist to refer me on for an mri etc. Thing is I have seen this person before and they said I was fine (without putting me in for an mri etc), so now I'm gonna go back a 2nd time and gonna say "looks like you were wrong mate!" :)

Yeah I had the same with my GP, he told me it was all in my head and to go through RT with it.....egg's on his face now!

Daveb, just wondered if you could answer my query. I had a medical 3 weeks on monday ago (for marines), when he asked me if I had any joint problems, I said no, apart from a little niggle I'd had in my knee about 4 weeks ago when running. He has sent off for my GP records to see if I have a history of joint problems, and I still havn't heard back from them. I went to the doctors about 5 years ago when I had some pain in the same knee (different pain) while playing football, there was nothing diagnosed and they just sent me to the physio who gave me some leg strengthening excercises. Now my question is, would this visit to the NHS physio 5 years ago affect the result of my medical? I've had no porblems for the past four weeks (I only had pain on two occasions) and I'm wondering what do you think the outcome will be?

Also, if they turn you down can you appeal some how? Get a second opinion? Theres naff all up with my knee, I'm a little annoyed that the doctor has made so much of it, as I explained to him I'd only had the pain twice. Do you know what my options are if they say i've failed?

You'll be fine mate. As long as you have said that you are 100% over it now and it's not affecting you at all now, they should be ok with it.

If worst comes to worst and they do say no (chances are they wont), I believe you can appeal, but to be honest I'm not 100% sure on the process.

Well, I didnt say I was totally over it actually, because my medical was a day after the two runs where I'd actually fealt the pain. But now, 3 weeks on, I'm fine. It was just a niggle I'd picked up, and if I fail because of it i'll be really f****d off. I hope to god I can appeal, If i do fail. The doctor said theres a chance whoever it is makes the decision, could say I have to wait until I've had 6 months, pain free. I'm going to ring them monday and see if anything has gone through.

Fingers crossed.

Dude, if you really had a problem you would know about it. You're worrying too much, chill out a bit and it'll be fine. My short experience with AFCO's, Meds ect says this ‘it takes time’. Be patient and it'll be ok. Remember all good things come to those who wait.

Even if you had to wait six months it's not the end of the world, people have done it before. It makes you more dedicated.

Still think you are crying over spilt milk.

Hope so anyway :D
