are people just gettin unfit or lazy!!!!
i went down lichfield the other week for my re- enlistment medical and whilst waiting i got chatting to the lads on their selection, and to my shock i found out six people had failed on the previous course on the mile and half as they could not complete the second lap....and two people on the current course had also failed to complete it,now im not braggin but im 28 and i can do in about 9:15 without any dramas and im by no means fit as i used to be....but these lads were 17,18 and 19 yr olds who could only run 1200m is it lazyness or unfitness....?????

To fail RSC is scandalous, especially given that the very basic standards of fitness required are clearly stated before hand.
Apart from fitness advice from ACIO there is a ton of information on physical training readily available on the internet or even at any local library. It costs nothing! To show up and and not only fail to achieve the required time, but be unable to complete the run clearly shows a lack of initiative.

I personally think it is more to do with lazyness than being unfit, but one leads to the other.
When I was at school I was probably what you'd class as very fit. I had played rugby since the age of 5 and always been very sporty. During college I managed to keep this up with very little thought and effort, having good stamina/endurance just seemed to come very naturally to me and I managed to run a 15.1 on the bleep test in my first year at college.
After leaving college I started putting work first and long days and working a lot of weekends meant that I stopped playing rugby for a year. I never truely realised until then how quickly fitness can be lost. When I went back to rugby training I felt like I was going to be sick and couldn't believe how unfit I felt.
I think that you have to work hard at your fitness as you get older. I'm only 22 now (relatively young in the grand scheme of things) and I find it takes a lot more determination and focus to keep my fitness up than it did only 5 years ago.

They're not used to pushing themselves. They watch all these films and shows these days and thinking that basic is a piece of piss.I reckon' if they put their minds to it they could have made it but they are joining the army for no good reason other than to get chicks or it's their running technique.Maybe they were bouncing their shoulders and stuffing up their knees then pulling out because they pulled an injury. It happens.I was running one time and had a deep pain in the bottom of feet and I pulled out and hell it hurt a lot for nearly an hour.Foot wear.

HAHA, UNFIT, totally agree mate, as a young person myself (16) all my mates, are really lazy, for example.. if a bus is jsut across the road, im like camon! lets run, or we will have to wait 15 mins, they are like.. f*ck running, ill get tired, ill wait for the next 1 you go.. and.. what they think of joining the army? " You are F*cked ".. kids these days have less discipline, can access to alchohol/drugs/ciggaretes easily, which also plays an important negative side when it comes down to sports, and.. when i used to go skool, for 3 years i didnt do P.E. or any sort of sports. WHY? no discipline.. parents should go harder on their kids.. like in the old days, RIght now personally, i love exercising and being healthy, it feels goodjase25064342 wrote:i went down lichfield the other week for my re- enlistment medical and whilst waiting i got chatting to the lads on their selection, and to my shock i found out six people had failed on the previous course on the mile and half as they could not complete the second lap....and two people on the current course had also failed to complete it,now im not braggin but im 28 and i can do in about 9:15 without any dramas and im by no means fit as i used to be....but these lads were 17,18 and 19 yr olds who could only run 1200m is it lazyness or unfitness....?????

I don't understand what goes on in some young peoples heads. Things like obesity are fast becoming a problem in this country. Obesity in children is now a far bigger problem in Scotland than it is in the United States. The average school leaver does nothing but play video games, eat junk, take drugs or get p*ssed on alcopops interspersed with the odd day of w*nking off in college class or sitting at the checkout in Tescos with a scowl on their face. No wonder so many are fat and unhealthy...they're probably waiting for the miracle wonder drug that will allow them to get fit without doing any excercise. It would have killed me to be a little porker at that age when a person should be in the prime of their health.
All this grumbling about young'uns is making me feel old now. Am going to put on my slippers and make myself a cup of Horlicks!

I totally agree. I mean I was at this Halloween party on Saturday at the town hall - with the exception of my boyfriend I don't think there were many people over 18 - and everyone was drinking s**t loads and smoking god knows what... There was a dance room and I could smell weed in it as soon as we walked in so we couldn't go in because I've got a medical before Christmas and seein as my bf in the RAF he could be drugs-tested anytime, ruined the whole evening grrr...HAHA, UNFIT, totally agree mate, as a young person myself (16) all my mates, are really lazy, for example.. if a bus is jsut across the road, im like camon! lets run, or we will have to wait 15 mins, they are like.. f*ck running, ill get tired, ill wait for the next 1 you go.. and.. what they think of joining the army? Rant over with now!!
Can't believe how many people hate the p.e. lessons in 6th form though - there's 10 of us who chose to swim on a Wednesday afternoon in the triple and half of them stay in the changing room and there's only 2 of us who actually do some serious training... really annoys me (as you can see!)
