Is there anybody on the forum who can tell me if it is possible to re-enlist in the army after being declared permanently medically unfit for army service?
What I mean is, would it be possible to challenge the declaration by sitting a thorough medical that would certify me as fit?
I just wanted to check before going to the ACIO and making an ass of myself in person.
If anyone has any info on this it would be much appreciated.

hi mate, from what i know from all the sickies on my guard shift when you get brown lettered its permanent, however...a few things...
what stage were you at when discharged i.e training or in regiment...
as far as i know the only way you woould get in is if it was an injury that can be fixed...e.g a pal of mine was brown lettered and declared unfit as was overweight and could not pass basic tests however he shed all the weight and re-enlisted although had to go see specialist at frimley park hospital....
your best bet is to get down your afco and see what they say...if it is an injury thats never gonna heal you'l be very lucky to get them to change their minds...good luck though.

Cheers Jase,
I was in regiment when I was discharged. Have been in contact with ACIO to find out what the score is but the best they can tell me at the moment is that I'll have to re-apply and wait to find out. The Manning and Records Office apparently has the final say on the matter and whether any training must be completed prior to re-joining my unit.
I know for fact that I am now 100% fit but have a feeling beuracracy will put a stop to my application before it even gets rolling. The fact is that it says on paper I would never be fit to serve again.
Would be interested to hear if anyone has ever found a way round this.

good point what is your injury? also i should'nt think you have to do any more training,as i have just gotten back in in june 2006 and i was out for nearly 4 years and aint had to no training at all!!!!!
but like i said before they are extremely desperate for people in the army,on my camp now nearly all the married quarters are empty where people have signed off,as we are all sick of constantly being in iraq and everywhere else they send us, so to be honest i think you'l probably go through normal medical procedure and as long as they happy should be no problem....

The injury was a re-curring stress fracture in my foot which they eventually attributed to a weakness in the bone. My own theory is that at the time I never gave the injury enough chance to heal.
I have been pounding the tarmac for years now without any problems at all and am confident my doctor will back me up on this.
Never thought about contacting my regiment so that might be a good idea.
Cheers, for the help!
