Hey lads check my routine out, not long applied for marines, passed my psychometric and eye test last week, got interview tuesday and medical wednesday!
just made up a routine ive been using!

Tell me what you think! i know some people say the weight lifting is crap, ive been doing weights for around a year now, ive cut them down into more compound exercises just to keep some of the size i have gained.

mate drop the weights totally, replace them with bodyweight circuits. I know its hard, i used to do a lot of weights and hated seeing my size dissapear but if u want marines u have to accept becoming wiry.Ive lost almost a stone in the last year and now instead of being big and thick im thinner but more toned, better for running etc.

I agree with dropping the weights (well placing them down carefully would be more advisable) but I don't think you will need to become 'wirey'. The 2 friends I have currently serving are both well built. Yea I would up your running by at least double.
After your medical you will need to do a PJFT (pre joining fitness test) - this is a mile and a half run to be completed in 10mins 45secs.
The next step is the PRMC which I'm sure you are familiar with (if not there's loads of info. on this site (take a look at the PRMC diaries in particular).
The first thing you'll have to do on this is a 3 mile run (with a decent warm up beforehand) to be run in 22mins30secs - although I think most who have done it will say that you have to keep pace with the PTI, so it may be slightly faster than this.
I would say you at least need to be running this distance in this time regularly (say 3 - 4 times a week) to get yourself ready for the PRMC. Most people would recommend you run slightly longer distances on a fairly regular basis as well - say 4 - 6 miles.

Thanks for replies, yer i understand about the weights, im only running 1.5 mile at the monent as thats what i need for my pjft, soon as i pass that ill increase to 3 mile runs ready for prmc, and if i pass that then ill increase to 4-8 mile runs !

Ill still do my weights but as i said, just the compound exercises 2 keep some size, i dont wanna go wirey as u say it haha !
All that weight ur carrying on ur back, i guess its good to have some muscle to help ur body stay up right otherwise could damage you over the years.

Thats all right in once sense, but rysco DO NOT TRAIN TO COMPLETE THE PRMC! - YOU NEED TO TRAIN AT A HIGHER LEVEL I.E. TRAIN TO BE A MARINE! Increase gradually, but instead of training for 3miles, train for 6 for a few weeks, then when you're getting faster at running for 6 - bust out a 3 miler and see how fast you do it. Although i have yet to start my training, i am saying this because i think alot of people are making the mistake of just training for the PRMC. Dont forget, you will be tested constantly so that when you get to do the 3miler your quite tired! You need to train to adapt to this so you have the energy to carry on.

Oh and by the way, LOOSE THE WEIGHTS! Trust me on that one ok! You will get your size back in time, if you do weights - do light weights with high repetitions!
About your muscles hahaha, trust me again - the heavier you are, the harder its going to be to move your bodyweight! You might have the size, but ask yourself, do you have good enough strength for that size??

Recently on my prmc guys who where hitting the high scores in GYM TEST 1 where the one's who weren't build like a shit house. doing weights is still good but u should be doing them in the same way doing circuit training. Get in a set routine working the chest, shoulders, arms, back and abs in sets of 15-20reps, doing them 3 times. Going to the gym 1-2 a week is enough and doing home circuits for the remainder of the training week is ideal
