Foot Care

Post by thundersafety »

The skin on my feet seems to be a bit soft and I am a bit susceptible to blisters, nothing major I just get some.

What are the best methods of foot care in people's experience?

I just want to be prepared for when I join.

I did a search but couldnt find anything so if there was a previous thread I am sorry! :(

go running barefoot on a beach - if you can.

good for fitness aswell as toughening the feet - two birds with 1 stone.

Just try wearing boots more. It's the soft cushioning in modern footwear which softens the feet. Also try walking bare foot when you're at home.

On the point about soaking your feet in spirits/turps I wouldn't bother with that as when I went to Depot one of the guys on my platoon had that idea but our Sgt said it was a load of rubbish I can't remember the exact reason why but he knew his stuff and was also a trained medic.

Also, always make sure you wear clean socks it's just a little thing but it makes a big difference.

Darren

That will do nothing but strip away all the natural oils in the skin leaving it raw and prone to cracks and abrasion.

Don't do it.

I had the same problem as you, wasn't used to running at all, started running from 1 miles to 8 miles, eventually my feet got alot of blisters, sometimes I would rest for a day or two before running again and I would also walk barefoot around the house and let the blisters fill in with water when taking a shower. After some months my skin feet got a bit more hardened but I still get them from time to time.
Clean socks is a good idea, I also like to put baby powder on my running shoes in order to absorb humidity.
