Aren't we popular?
Christ, you'd think I'd posted a thread about molesting sheep.
Just to clarify a few things here.
1)I wasn't trying to be popular.
2)If this forum doesn't interest you and you have no time for it whatsoever, why are you posting? Shut up and go away.
3)What I was trying to say (apparently not too clearly) was fairly simple. The RM section of this forum has the most traffic by far. I put this down to the help and advice that gets given here, especially from the 'old and bold'. I appreciate the help and advice I get/got from it, and I try to help others as best I can. I know there are a fair few pointless threads and people who don't know how the search function works. The fact that advice is still given to those who ask politely for it is both a minor miracle and a great thing. I was saying thank you. I don't think saying thank you is pointless in the slightest.
SO WHAT'S THE FARKING PROBLEM!?
(takes deep breath, calms down, walks away and waits for the inevitable backlash)

(Gives Deadhead a huge hug and kiss, holds his hand and whispers in his sweet little ear, i'm sorry i didn't mean anything nasty by it)
I APOLOGISE TO ANYONE WHO WAS OFFENDED, DIDN'T WANT TO SOUND AS THOUGH I WAS PICKING ANYTHING OUT IN PARTICULAR, EVERYTHING DOES HAVE ITS UPS AND DOWNS, ESPECIALLY ME SO SORRY FOR BEEN A MUPPET
SUPPSOE YOU COULD SAY I COME HERE TO GET THINGS OFF MY CHEST WHICH I GUESS IS A GOOD THING IN A WAY, AS MOST PEOPLE IN HERE ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION, SAME PERSONALITIES AND SAME DREAMS.
PROBABLY FOR MANY THIS SITE IS THE ONLY PLACE WHERE WE CAN TALK TO EACH OTHER AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT
Keep it up people
Regards
Chris

If you were referring to my post about the search function, I was never saying that this was a pointless thread. I agreed with you, but just mentioned that I wished the search function was a bit wider used by the newer members of the forum who join to ask questions.Deadhead wrote:Christ, you'd think I'd posted a thread about molesting sheep.

Cheers mate,
Rich
At the end of the day pretty much every single aspect of training for the marines has been covered before in the forums. You could find out anything at all if you searched hard enough. But why would you want to? Whats wrong with asking something thats been covered six months ago? This isn't a military fitness and training database it's a forum for gods sake so stop moaning and telling people to use the search button all the time. If you don't want to reply then don't.
That's not really how I see it. I don't go around saying to anyone who's asking a question "OMFG SEARCH PLZ", but some people ask questions that have been covered only a few threads down or many times throughout the past couple of months. This isn't a military fitness and training database it's a forum for gods sake so stop moaning and telling people to use the search button all the time. If you don't want to reply then don't.
It's not a matter of not wanting to reply. I'm all for anwsering questions and will continue to help as much as I can, but there have been people in the who've asked a question and recieved much better advice from someone experienced (who may not frequent the forums anymore) than I can give and it would be better to read that advice than the little I can give. That is why I reccommend (not moan or tell people) the search function.
I'm not looking to turn this into a hangbag contest. And Deadhead mate, if you posted about molesting sheep a certain few of us would be all ears and offer our personal expertise.
Rich.

The lady is right as per usualflo wrote:First and formost this is a military forum, questions will be asked including ones covered before. But we have to remember that the search button is there, but we ALSO have to remember that training techniques and what may be required of you by the training team may have changed from one troop to the next. So yes we will get bored seeing the same old qustions being asked but then again we may appreciate the new advise given, but only if it is from a viable source and NOT from somebody who heard from a friend.
And if it was a handbag contest, i'd win
The forums are here to be used so lets get out there and use them (and the search button now and then!)

All the points of view in this thread both positive and negative are valid. But. And it is a big but. Just remember gents and our Flo (lurrved your T shirt you wore in the White Lion dear lady!!!
). Some of the people who post on here are 15/16 years old. They ain't worked for a living and have been brought up on what the Media tells them ref the Royal Marines and the rest of the Armed Forces. And to me seem to look at the Corp though Rose Tinted Spectacles. It's what 15/16 year old lads tend to do. I get lads coming to my door sometimes asking advice about joining the Corp and where I can help I will. About five lads from my part of the world have joined the Corp because of talking to me. I even attended one lads pass out (spent most of the day in the Sgts Mess Swapping stories with Owd Oppos and sinking a fair few wets but I was still there!
)
Now you all know what my views are on such stuff like Press Ups and similar. But young "Horace" fresh to the site and not knowing the score is still going to ask questions like these as he will have no idea about the search facility. To him it's all knew. So lets give them a bit of slack hey?
I am still waiting for some wonderman to ask when he should change his socks in training!
Sad I know but it's the way I am you see. The Corp is an institution I for one loved and still love. It was my other family and still is really as I am still in Comms with a ruck of Owd Oppos.
As it is I spent most of my time painting pictures of peoples houses/horses/canalboats/ought they ask me to paint and Roses and Castles/Boat Names on Canal Boats. Sometimes due to the weather I find myself sat on me arse with nought to do so I come on here and try to help blokes where I can ref the Corp.
On occasion I let rip bigtime at silly posts but what the heck thats me int it then? To some I must seem to be an Owd Past his sell by date PRONG with bugger all better to do. AM OIE BOVVERED? am oie bollox!
If I can help a wannerbie to acheive what he wants then I'm happy to help him.
When I joined the Corp the Tinternet was a dream in some blokes head. So I didn't really know what I was letting myself in for. Me Pop was a Bootneck in the late forties but was transferred to the RAF due to his eyesight after only a few weeks. So he couldn't tell me much about the Corp. I got it from comics like the Valiant where they was a bloke called Captain Hurricane and his sidekick Maggot Malone who were always on the winning side. I just had to make it up as I went along in other words. But once I joined at RMB Deal for my 10 days induction course in 1973 (PRMC did not exist then) I soon sussed out the score!!!
Bloody hard graft was going to be my future for the next six months. My DL Cpl Yorkie Malone was a hard but fair taskmaster as were the rest of the training team. We were beasted if we cocked up as you can well imagine but my memories of training are for the most part Good memories. Yorkie is now a real Oppo of mine believe it or not. We have had some cracking runs ashore since we got back in touch with each other.
Heres four generation of Bootnecks in a place called Wrenbury, Cheshire.
From the left:
Youngest bloke who is now a Copper but I canna remember his name! Ickle Me! Yorkie Malone. "Really Owd Bootneck" who lives next door to the pub where we imbibed for 12 hours straight. Tony Groves. The Guy on the left was in the Rifle Troop that Yorkie was the sgt of in 45CDORM Down South in the falklands in 1982. Please note the blond hair I sported then! I did it for a thirty pound bet (civvies, they never bloody learn!
).

So to sum up:
Deadhead good bit of sniveling there son!
Chris with all the numbers. You don't have to read the dross if you don't want to.
Am still waiting for a question about when you should change yer socks!
Don't give young lads still wet behind the ears grief because they have asked to your mind a daft question.
Artist is a damn good looking bloke!
Yorkie is an Owd Git!
I'm sodding off for a few wets. Bye now yar all!!!
Kinell! This must be the longest post Oie've ever posted!

What an essay that was artist, bet your right thirsty after typing all that
But i think most people would echo what you've said really, but it dont really need a thread of its own every now again, or people to keep going on about this and that, that is wrong bla bla bla. We just need to show new users the error of there ways nicely and let them get on with enjoying the site for what it is. A great resource for potential recruits
