Does anyone know of any quick 'witty' responses to these sorts of questions in an interview. The obvious ones to aviod will be: "cause I wanna shoot stuff" or "cause I like James Bond films", but do they really want to hear the same old: "I like the teamwork/leadership" or "I want to be with the best of the best" etc.. bullsh*t???
The best one I've heard is:
Q: If you want a career in the forces but do not want to be a sailor or pilot (previous answers) then why the Royal Marines over the Army?
A: Because I would feel confident in joining the army but becoming a Royal Marine is much more difficult and therefore uncertain - this challenge is something I would like a go at.
Any More?

in answer to your question, heres a technique you may want to try
---
treat them like an attractive woman in a bar, go upto them with confidence, grace.
NEVER spout off cheese ball lines, you'll get slapped or told to leave.
say your name, ask them theirs, buy them a drink that you can see they've been drinking (dont ask what they want)
ask them what they do, listen with an understanding expression on your face, nod, smile and occasionally stiffle a giggle to cause intrigue.
craddle your arm around them (not too low, not too high - this isnt mardi gras)
gently remove any green headwear, and brush softly through their hair with one hand, and nestle it comfortably around the back of their shoulders.
reach in for a passionate conversation, gentle but firm.. tell them your desires, allow them to come the rest of the way.

I must admit RMR did appeal to me! I am a good swimmer but not a good runner, which would have let me down
I guess I joined the TA to see if I liked being in the Army or not, to be honest! I am a country boy at heart and like being outdoors and my brother had joined the same Regiment in the same location.
Being in the Army was not 100% for me but I often think about the experience and I am so glad I did it
I know many people feel the same way.
Good luck guys and gals....
