Hey, new user!

Post by Valo »

Hey all,
I've been reading been reading this site for a while and decided it's time to post.

Well,

Im currently training for my PRMC which is mid July, passed my medical , interview and PJFT (in a disapointing time).

Just wanted to tell anyone who is currently training, DONT OVER DO IT!

I've come down with a case of shin splints which is seriously hitting my training. I've already pushed PRMC back and nearly cancelled my PJFT but felt ok on the day (Obiously wasn't!)

So, that was a bit about me.

Nice to meet you all

I have my aquaint day mid june and am really worried that i will have to cancel. I dont want to get there and them say im not ready to attempt PRMC.

How are you working around it? I ice then constantly and take perscription ibroprufen (sp) which helps. I managed a 45 min run the other day pain free, but then a couple of days later i couldnt do 15 mins!

How is your training going? How was the aquaint day?

the acquaint day went well except on the 3 miler, i got cramp so stopped for a moment, started running off again and got lost because i had fell behind the pack, i eventually came in at 23.20 ( i can usually do it in about 21.30) i explained what happened and they decided to pass me as i got 11.2 on the bleep test and decent scores for pull ups and press ups etc...as for the shin splints i usually have to train for a day and then rest for a day which is no bloody good, so before i do PRMC i'm going to give it some proper rest and then build up gradually, you could use the search button at the top of the page as this topic has been raised on a number of occassions

Thanks for all the responses. jimbob, it sounds like we're in the same boat. Im using an exercise bike to try and keep fit bit its just not the same.

This is going to sound a bit silly but... what underwear do you all run in. I find a git a bit erm..hot down there and chaffing occurs. Anyone else have this problom :(

i dont wear any mate (i hope to f@#k your not getting excited)...as my shorts have built in mesh pants, also if you want to keep up your aerobic fitness but not put strain on your shins, go to a gym and use the cross trainer or rowing machine

ha ha ha! no!

I have some with the mesh but wear boxers underneath, perhaps thats the problem.

When I say down there I mean thighs and ass!!

Will give it a go tonight with none.

Hello mate, welcome!

I too have mild shin splints at the moment due to doing too much too soon after my long term injury. It should be better soon though.

Best of luck with your PRMC.

i too have been schmoozing around the boards for a while, and decided to post, i agree with you on the injury front, i worked too hard on my running and did me leg in the other day - its stopped my running for a while, which i was a little peeved over.

Also having ultrasound treatment on my wrists because i was starting on heavy weights instead of building up, i dont listen too well until i over-do it. Bloody doctor types!!

doing training now, starting next week (monday) and after 2 months of it, im hoping for my PRMC, during those 2 months ill start the application process etc.
