Noble and manly music invigorates the spirit, strengthens the wavering man, and incites him to great and worthy deeds - Homer
My guess is it works on strengthening minor muscles, liagaments and muscle attachments in the shoulder and elbow joints. Also requires more static control holding the muscles since you aren't holding the body in a position locked by the skeleton, and the movement itself doesn't follow the normal pattern of arm extention / contraction.jimbob wrote:hmm...interesting, does this technique do anything for your triceps, shoulders and chest that a normal press-up wouldn't?
Lot of gymnast stuff focuses on getting smaller or generally ignored muscles working well, essentially eliminates any weak links in your musculature. Does wonders for strength, because you could have the largest biceps in the world, but if your joints can't support the weight they are useless.
Dead on Sarastro. I couldn't answer as i didn't put it into words. Body conditioning i used to do at gymnastics featured some very bizzarre exercises which until recently i didn't understand. But since i've been studying for my gym instructor qualification i've seen how important these minor and often forgotten muscles are. (as well as tendon and ligament strength)Sarastro wrote:My guess is it works on strengthening minor muscles, liagaments and muscle attachments in the shoulder and elbow joints. But i should have stressed, that the pressup featured there isn't for entry level. You could injure yourself.

Excuse me? With little starch and no sugar you won't get much exercising done. It doesn't even say that's advice just for fat people, it says it's for 'world class fitness'.Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.
Stumbled across this site as well. Full of lots of nice pictures for those wanting advice on how to do correct pushups etc.
